Holiday Decorating Tips for Every Home

Somewhere between the Grinch and Clark Griswold are the sensible homeowners who embrace the holidays with just the right amount of holiday cheer. Here are some decorating tips for those of you who show a little restraint when it comes to decking the halls.
1. Lights
When it comes to lights, less can definitely be more. If you want to dial down the electric bill but still show a little holiday spirit, we recommend simplifying your lighting situation. A simple string of white, blue, or (if you can't resist) multi-color lights run along the edge of your roof gives your home a nice look without going over the top. If you like the look, but don't like the work, you can also hire a pro to put the lights up for you.
2. Theme
Left unchecked, it's easy to get carried away with the decorations. Instead of decorating your home with a bunch of disparate themes, pick one and incorporate it throughout your house. Not only will it give your home a nice, unified look, it'll also make it easier to shop for decorations. (Tip: pick two or three colors to keep your look consistent).
3. Smells Like Holiday Spirit
If there's any season more tailor made for scented candles and potpourri we can't think of it. Pick out a few of your favorite holiday scents and place them in your home's common areas. As much as we love the smell of candles, we like to use potpourri when we know we're going to have lots of guests (and their kids) over.
