Wood Flooring Refinish

I had engineered wood flooring and wanted to have them refinished before I sold my house. I hired someone to do them and they did a lousy job. Left saw dust everywhere and poured stain directly on the floor and didn't seal it (luckily in this case). I had already moved out of state and my realtor had two different flooring professionals over to look at repairing the awful job. Neither of them would touch it as they didn't think they could fix it. Luckily I found Erik at Arizona Floor Works, he went to my house the same day to look at it and give me an estimate. He couldn't guarantee that it would be perfect because stain likely got absorbed all the way through in some places but he was willing to do the best he could and try to repair it. He was able to sand out almost all of the bad work, chose a stain color that he thought could blend in what he couldn't sand out and sealed it. The floors came out looking way better than I ever dreamed they would. He was extremely professional and responsive. He sent me pictures all the way through the process right up to the final product. My realtor showed up at the house after he was finished and told me how beautiful the floors looked. I couldn't recommend Erik enough, he took a disaster where I almost had to replace the entire wood flooring and made them beautiful again. If you're looking for a great floor guy this is who you need to hire.

Our one-room project should have been a simple one; we had older mesquite floors in need of sanding, having some knot holes refilled, and then having the floors buffed, refinished, and sealed. As this room is the hub to all other rooms in the house, Erik suggested that we take our big dogs away for the weekend so he could do his work and let the final coat dry. After taking down all art and moving all the furniture out of the room, we left for the weekend. When we returned, everything in our front room, kitchen, hallway, bathroom and living room was thickly covered in sawdust and our bathtub was clogged and bearing a ring of some brown flooring product. The floors looked nice, but Erik had not filled several dozen large knot holes as he agreed to do. I called him reminding him that this was in the contract. The next day he came back and attempted to fill a few holes, but after a few minutes conceded that he would have to entirely redo the floors if I wanted the holes filled. We made arrangements for my family to go out of town a SECOND time with the dogs. When we returned, we were stunned to find that the floors were no better, and possibly worse, with more that a dozen holes the size of a quarter remaining and uneven application of the sealer. I called Erik and questioned how and why he would leave the floors like this. Erik informed me that both times he tried to fill the holes but could not do it, claiming that the product he was using would not hold. He proceeded to send a colleague to my house to examine the floors and presumably confirm his claim that the holes were unfillable. I had an independent review done as well. Both of the licensed floor professionals agreed that the holes could have and should have been filled. Eriks colleague suggested to Erik that he use a specific product that would adhere to the holes better than the one Erik had chosen, We began talking about Erik taking a third pass on my floors. Erik re-sanded my floors a third time, which took off enough wood that many of the original mesquite panels started showing nails, while others started splintering off large chunks of wood. Seeing this, I explained to Erik that I was losing confidence in his abilities to complete this job. With my once beautiful floors now completely stripped and covered in black tar used to fill the holes, he asked if I wanted half my money back? all of my money back? or for him to walk away? I explained that I wanted my job completed properly for the amount I had paid him in full up front. Erik said that we could complete the project if we could buy 30 sq ft of mesquite to replace those panels which had been over-sanded, so we did. As Erik was unavailable to complete the job for a few more weeks, my partner and I proceeded to live amidst a work site: no table to have dinner at, no couch to sit on, no stereo and no functioning kitchen. When Erik became free, we made plans to leave town a THIRD time and when we returned, there in the middle of our mesquite floor was a completely off-color, mismatched eye sore of a mesquite patch job that looks NOTHING like the original floor. Additionally, the seal on the floor was sloppily executed, leaving blobs of coating in some places and missing other large areas entirely. There was also sealer splattered all over our nice French doors. I find Eriks professional knowledge to be limited and his attention to detail to be lacking. This job should have been completed in a weekend, but took four, drawn-out weekends. Lots of stress, even tears. The worst part is that that we were so excited to take money out of our house to redo our floors and give us something to be proud of. Instead we are very upset with the end result and are reminded of EVERY DAY. Eriks bid was fair and he saw the job through to the end. Besides that, there is nothing I would recommend...

We love our new wood floor! Erik replaced the manufactured wood floor in our living and dining rooms with solid wood flooring. Wow, what a difference. Erik is a professional through and through. Heâ s knowledgeable, hardworking, responsive and dedicated to doing the job right. He takes pride in his work and keeping his customers happy. We could not recommend him more highly.

I rarely give all 5’s but Arizona Floorworks deserves them. Erik took a worn out hardwood floor and brought it back to life. We are extremely pleased with the results of his work. What he quoted is what he billed. A rarity nowadays. Was on time every day. These are all the characteristics of being profesional.

Eric is phenomenal! Very professional and friendly. He replaced all the carpeting in the four bedrooms with engineered hardwood. Takes great pride in his work. We used another larger flooring company in Tucson for the family room initially. Love the wood but the transition between the wood flooring and tile was an eyesore. Ericâ s transitions are flat and continuous. Beautiful. Eric is also SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the other company. We are very happy with Arizona FloorWorks!

Erik is a diamond in the rough. Both he and Steve are consummate professionals: they were on time, good humored, responsive, committed to doing the best job possible and pleasing me ( some have called me a "difficult customer"). No add ons, no nonsense: the craftsmanship was flawless and the result is far more beautiful than I could have imagined. Perfection! Hire them!

Absolutely stellar work! Erik and his team worked magic on our walnut floors. The surfaces were originally covered in a dark stain and had numerous scratches and gouge marks in them. The floor was laid in intricate circular and reverse herring bone patterns which required the eye of a cabinet maker and the patience of an artisan to ensure that the grain in each piece was properly addressed. After meticulously sanding and polishing the over 1000 sqft area, the floors are now incredible features in our home. I highly recommend Arizona Floorworks for any wood floor project.

As you will notice, there are many lengthy 5 star reviews for Arizona Floorworks. That's because there's just never enough good one can say or write about these guys. First, Erik and Steve are the most professional, trustworthy, respectful and friendly couple of REAL guys that you will ever have do work in your home. Second, they have been very accommodating to all of our requests and questions. Most importantly, their work is impeccable!! There is nothing they can't do or fix and you are assured to have the most gorgeous looking floor when they are done. We chose solid tigerwood for our floor which is absolutely beautiful, but as we've learned, a lot of the more exotic hardwoods have more "shorties" than most other types of solid hardwoods. In fact both Erik and Steve mentioned that it was the most they've ever seen in all their years of installation. But I defy anyone looking at our floor to know this was the case. Their placement skills are second to none. Now I must mention here, that my husband is a retired custom cabinet and furniture maker with an annoying (but appreciative) habit of being TOO meticulous, so he's always been able to see thru claims of workmanship from those types who don't know their a$$ from a whole in the ground. So when I say my husband is very impressed with Erik and Steve's abilities you can take that to the bank, which leads to my final point, their prices are more than reasonable especially for the QUALITY work you will be assured to receive. Like I said, there's never enough good one can say about Arizona Floorworks and there's so much more I can detail here, but I will leave you to seek these guys out and find out for yourself. You will be glad you did.

We have an oak floor that had been refinished many years ago, but part of the floor at that time was under a built-up fireplace hearth. During renovations, we took out the fireplace and hearth and discovered the floor underneath was still good enough to use, but it needed refinishing. Arizona Floorworks recommended we refinish the entire space, which is what we did. They were professional and timely, and the floor looks excellent!

We have a 1929 house and our wood floors had been damp mopped and oiled for many years. Erik, along with his assistant Steve, did a fantastic job refinishing them with environmentally friendly products. They were very meticulous and ended up replacing many more floor boards than originally anticipated. We offered to help offset the expense as he didn't even ask for more than the estimate. I'm certain that our job was more than they bargained for but they were always cheery and pleasant. The floors look amazing and we highly recommend Arizona Floorworks.

I cannot say enough about Erik's knowledge, quality of work, professionalism, and fairness. Erik spent several weeks refinishing my engineered hickory wood floor and turned it into the floor I have always dreamed of owning. I had used another Tucson wood flooring contracter a few years ago to refinish my floor, and they turned my floor into a nightmare. When Erik came to my house and looked at my floor, he knew it would be a challenge to fix the damage that had been done, but then said, "I like a challenge and I know I can make your floor look alot better." Well, he was so right! My floor is gorgeous now! The quality of his workmanship was a night and day difference between the other company I had used. I was amazed at the care he took to do the job right and the way he handled every single challenge that came with my damaged floor. Erik took the time to do the job the right way and is very detail oriented. Making my floor beautiful seemed to mean as much to him as it did to me. He would bring his assistant Steven with him often, and both Erik and Steven are extremely professional, polite, and patient. Not many flooring professionals would want to take on an engineered floor that looked as bad as mine, and Erik turned my hickory floor into such a beautiful floor. I could not decide what color stain to use and went back and forth on color for weeks. I am sure I drove Erik crazy but he never showed it. I finally told him to decide on the color and when he did, it was the best color anyone could have come up with. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. This is the guy you want for your hardwood floors. Trust me!

We were in a very unusual position. We lived in PA and were planning our return move to Tucson. The problem was we needed our flooring professional to remove all of the ugly and cheap laminate flooring, along with mismatched tile, marble and gross carpeting before we could move in. In addition, I only had a few days to meet with the professional in person, so many of the decisions and planning were done by phone. I liked the way that Erik worked with me, even before we had a contract. I asked his opinion on the flooring we chose and felt confident he knew what he was talking about. When I flew to Tucson to finally meet him, he put me completely at ease. He wanted a 50% first payment, and my husband hesitated because he had a bad experience once before with landscapers who collected the first payment and hit the hills. I had the gut feeling that I could 1) trust him to do the job without supervision (we were in PA), 2) to take care of our home and entrust him with keys to our property, and 3) that he would do an exceptional job. He kept us up to date on the progress of the job and the unforeseen obstacles to removing the old floors. He also coordinated the delivery of the flooring material to the site, and personally picked up an additional delivery. So, with great trust, we packed up our home in PA, packed up two cars and made the road trip to Tucson, anxious to see the job. Well, my hopes were well placed. Erik did an amazing job!! His attention to detail is exquisite and his work ethic is beyond reproach. He had fantastic ideas on how to breakup the massive space (2,800 sqft) by changing the direction of the solid hickory hardwood planks to have a visual change in the open floorplan, according to area "spaces", like familly room, dining room and bedrooms. He created a space that is harmonious, but not monotonous, and is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this professional for any of your flooring needs (no carpet). You will have invested in one of the best remodeling specialists out there! Thanks Erik!! YOU WERE AMAZING!!!

Erik is at the top of his field, yet is not expensive compared to others. My flooring project had multiple unusual challenges and needed an expert level installation. Erik handled each challenge with elegance and determination to maintain the high-end look and feel that the hardwood oak deserves. For the price, the value is a no-brainer considering the dedication and high level of competence that Erik brings to the job site. If I had followed advice from other companies that encouraged me to cut corners (like nailing the solid-hardwood to the press-wood instead of installing plywood first), this flooring project would have eventually become a disaster. For just a little bit more to install 607 sq. ft. of plywood first, Erik brought a level of professionalism and skill that I imagine is difficult to find. He cuts no corners, doing everything right (like leveling the uneven floor and minimizing problem areas), yet he didn't veer from the estimate despite the extra attention needed. He even made an incredible looking custom transition piece for the stairs, which had to be very wide and slowly sloped to avoid a trip hazard at the entrance the room at the top of the stairs. If you want it done right, call Erik, he wont break the bank but he'll leave you with beautiful craftsmanship and elegance that will last a lifetime.

Erik, who did the floors, was very professional and wanted to make sure we were happy with the job. The work was done to a rental home that took lots of student abuse and needed lots of work to make the wood floors look decent. He finished a couple of days later than projected because he wanted to do re-do it in order to meet his own expectations. I would recommend his company highly.
