Powell Enterprises

I contacted Powell Enterprises from AngiesList and contracted with him to complete the work to add the drywall and paint it. The agreed price was $800 for the work including all materials and he required me to front him $200 as part of the deal. He was supposed to come on 26th April between 8-9:00 am. Just before the time, he sent me the text claiming he cannot come on that and he wants to postpone on 27th April at 9:00 am. On 27th, he did the same thing and said he will be late. At 10:30 am, I texted him about know abouts but gave another ambiguous reply. I requested him to cancel the agreement and refund my payment back. He agreed that he will return the money as soon as he returns the material back to Menards (shop like HomeDepot). I asked for the money back again later in the evening for which it will few more days to get the money back.

Owner came to my house and gave me a quote of which I paid half up front via Venmo. The day before he had promised to start the work I reached out to confirm time he would arrive and he said he couldn?t come it would have to be the next day. No apology just statement. So I confirmed a time for the next day to be 9:00 am and he said yes he would be there. At 9:15 that day he was not here so I reached out. He responded at 9:45 that he overslept and he?d be at my house by 11:00. Continued to text me that he understands how frustrating it can be and he?d work the following day as well. I didn?t answer due to taking a nap (I work night shift and was exhausted). I had an alarm set for 11:00 and when I woke up I saw the texts. I texted him where was he and he said he was waiting for my response after already telling me he?d arrive by 11:00. At this point I told him to be at my house by noon or I want my money back since I?d been waiting over two hours and he?d already missed day 1. He promised he?d be here before noon. At 11:45 he said he?d be here shortly after noon. I stuck to my initial thought process that this man was unprofessional and wasn?t avtually coming. At this point my fiance didn?t trust him to do the work well either so I told him not to come. I want my money back. He said he?d pay it back so I sent a Venmo request. No response to the request. 6 hours go by and I ask him why I had not received the request. He did not reply. At this point I gave him a deadline to return my money since no service was done or I would be filing a police report. He replied to that and said he?d pay me back and ?I?m done with the threatening? even though this was the first thing I?d said that might be construed that way. The deadline came and went with no Venmo. I reminded him of the Venmo via the app the next day and was giving him more time before contacting the police and he declined the request. I?m out $700 and have no work done. Do NOT trust this worker. He was extremely unprofessional and WILL scam you.
