"We added a 30' x25' family room addition onto our kitchen. We have a log home which when adding regular framing to a log home there are multiple problems. In short, Jess is a great problem solver. Jess and his crew were fast, and did a great job. Faming was perfect. City inspector even commented on the framing. Yes, I'd hire him again for sure."

"We moved to Utah county over a year ago without knowing any contractors. Home Advisor recommended several contractors who were all very responsive in our request to remodel. Jordan from Fine Design was a step above all of them. In his first visit he asked questions about everything we were doing. He made suggestions that improved our ideas. The reason I hired him was because of his professionalism and his detailed proposal. I knew exactly what I was getting and not getting. Jordan was extremely responsive in returning my quote where other contractors delivered their quotes later than they committed to me. In the beginning I considered acting as the General contractor because I had some construction experience and I was trying to save money. After evaluating the cost of being the general vs. hiring Find Design, I discovered I could save somewhere between 5-10%, however the project would take twice as long and I would have to coordinate everything with the subcontractors who were very responsive on their first visit but had horrible follow thru with returning quotes and all of them were terrible in trying to sell me on their services, or I should say their lack of selling to me. I spoke to probably 20 sub-contractors (most were referred to me by neighbors and other contractors) of various trades and most delivered their quotes late without any explanation of the cost. I am sure they are good at what they do but none of them were good at selling their services or differentiating themselves from other contractors, plus they were all horrible with follow thru. With this poor experience I knew I had to hire a general, like Fine Design, so they could manage the project the sub-contractors. Jordan is what you expect of a contractor, he asked the right question, made suggestions, timely follow thru and good relationships with the sub-contractors and his own crew were experts in everything they did. The other thing that really impressed us was the professionalism and honesty of all his sub-contractors and employees. We never felt uncomfortable with any of the workers in our home and we never hesitated to let them work in our home when we were gone for four weeks during the renovation. Our home turned out beautiful and my wife and I are extremely happy with the finish product. From my research, due diligence and experience Fine Design is one of the best General Contractors in Utah. I would use him again and again."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
