"On 7/30/2024 I received a message from Jay V's handyman shop after an initial request made on Angi's list in reference to my home window frame repair. I then spoke to Mr. Jamie Villarel on the same day at 11:37 am. I spoke with him again on 8/2/2024 at 1:21pm and again at 4:01 pm. I took pictures of the windows and frames and text them to his so he could see the damage to the wood along with my address. We set an appointment for him to come out on 8/3/2024, he was a no show. On 8/4/2024 he texted me and he was able to come but I was not available, so he was to come over on 8/5/2024 he was a no show. On 8/6/2024 he had someone text me from 832-848-6434 to say he could not make it due to work, because I did not know the number of the person who text I called to confirm that he had given my number to someone I did not know to message me he stated he did and that his worker would come out to see the project. A man ,who said he was helping Jaime, came to my home I walked him around showed him the windows, and what was wrong he took some photo's and measurements then told me Jaime would call me later. I spoke to Jaime after he spoke with his worker who told him he believed my windows would need to be replaced because they were the wrong size along with fixing the damaged wood . I was ok with that if that was going to correct the problem. I received a text on 8/19/2024 from Jaime to tell me he may have to custom order new windows or just do a better seal on the windows to correct the situation. I called him on 8/30/2024 to gauge his progress we talked about the project and he reassured me he could do the job. We made and appointment for him to come to my home and see for himself what he was going to need to do as the pictures were not sufficient. On 9/3/2024 I text to ensure he would be there, he was running late but arrived at 5:42 pm. After looking at the windows and frames he was sure he would not need to get new windows, he would only need to take the window boxes apart, seal the windows correctly and put the window boxes back together with damaged pieces replaced. So when he sent me the Estimate of $1800.00 to fix the 4 windows on the front of my home, I printed it out and went about getting things together. I received a text where he explained that what he was charging me included his cost to purchase materials to do the job correctly, time, transportation of materials, and gas. If there were any additional unforeseen cost due to damage that was only seen once wood was removed he would let me know so we could address them. On 9/12/204 he text me to ensure I was still interested in the project I told him I was working to get things in order to proceed. On 9/20/2024 I sent the first payment of $900.00 and scheduled for him to start on 9/23/2024 at 8:00 am he was late and did not get to my home till 11:14 am. On that day he took the window boxes apart to reseal and caulk so I did not think anything was wrong he then told and showed me that there was two pieces of wood in the middle of the first window box that had been damaged by insects so before he could wrap the window he would have replace them so I was fine with the potentially being an added cost. Once both boxes where sealed and wrapped and it was time to put the wood back on, all of a sudden he couldn't find the wood he would need to complete the job this was on 9/25/2024 I did not know till then that he did not already have the wood at his workshop or that he had not ordered it beforehand. It was at this time he said he could use hardiplank to fix it and I asked would it look just like the wood he had removed since he had also damaged some of the wood that was removed from my home I was kind of in a bind and accepted that he would have to use a different material. I approved the change but told him I would wait to see how it looked and again he said he knows what he is doing he builds homes for a living. I don't have any home building skills so I am at a loss as to what other avenue should have been taken. On 9/26/2024 he text me he had the materials and was on his way then text me again that he had gotten a flat tire, once there he worked and then text me he ran out of screws so he had to get more, then he text me that he ran out of time and would have to work more tomorrow. I texted ok as it was after 7pm, when I was able to go outside the next day before he arrived I used blue tape to show him gaps, broken hardiplank ,trim, and caulk that was not applied correctly. When he got to my home at 12:24pm I spoke with him and told him I was unhappy with how the window boxes looked he told me he was glad I had made him aware of the mistakes but that he was not finished and once he had addressed my concerns put everything in place and painted that I would be happy. He worked that day and came back on 9/28/2024 at 4:19pm with a different man than before I thought he had gone and got someone who could help him fix the window boxes correctly. At 5:36 pm he sent a text saying he was done and he wanted to be paid and make arrangement to start on the other windows, when I saw the text I immediately went outside to look at what he had done which was nothing he had not addressed any of my concerns, just added more paint and some of it which is the wrong color. My home is burgundy with cream trim and he trimmed the window frame which are now part wood and part plastic in white. He built the window boxes to short in width and length and you can clearly see where the wood is missing, the trim corners do not meet in some spots, you can see exposed wood that was not exposed before, and there are places that he put caulk because the pieces of material do not meet. On 9/29/2024 at 10:49am he called and said he was on his way back to my home to address my concerns he was a no show, 8:15 pm he texted that he would be at my home on 9/30/2024 that he was dedicating that day to trying to fix the issues I waited for him when he did not show up by 12:00pm I left to take my car in for repairs then I took my son to pick up things for his birthday which was that day so at 1:19pm when he texted me that he was finished with another job and he could come then I Iet him know I was not home. It was at that time I stopped responding to his text since he was not making any real attempts to correct the situation. On 10/1/2024 he showed up to my home unannounced or invited, when I went outside to address the issues he kept lying to my face that the wood he took off my home and just painted over the areas and did not replace the wood or whatever material he was using that it was done right and that the trim did not have to meet at the corners correctly nor did the boxes have to be the same size that they where before. He told me he was not going to fix the window box frames correctly, he wanted his money, and he was going put a contractors lean on my home. He then stated he was going to file a complaint against me on Angi's list that I just didn't want to pay him. I informed him that I had already started the complaint process against him I was being talked over and lied to and on so I ended the conversation and came back into my home. It was later that my son came in and told me he saw him pull some type of weapon from his pocket and throw it into his truck before driving away from my home, I reviewed the camera on the front of my home and was able to see exactly what my son said he saw."

Pocket doors are more expensive than standard pre-hung doors. While a standard interior door installation costs around $150 to $200, installing a pocket door can run from $1,000 to $3,500, especially on existing walls. The higher price is due to extra work like demolition and modifications. While more costly, installing pocket doors offers benefits like saving space and modern aesthetics that are worth the added expense.
To frame or retrofit a pocket door, you'd need to modify an existing wall to fit the door and its hardware. This process involves opening the wall, ensuring the door has space to slide, and adjusting any wiring or plumbing inside. After creating space, a new frame and track are installed so the door functions properly.
You can use some standard doors as pocket doors, but they must fit the required dimensions. The door has to slide smoothly into the wall cavity, so it must be the right size and thickness. Also, any existing hardware holes need to be adjusted or covered up to work correctly, increasing labor costs.
For a pocket door, you need enough wall space for the door to slide into. A standard 32-inch-wide door requires about 66 inches of wall space in total—including the doorway and the pocket. The wall you install it in should be at least four inches deep to fit the door's thickness.
Installing a pocket door usually takes about six to 12 hours. If your project requires extra work like wall modifications or electrical adjustments, it might take a couple of days. The exact time depends on your home's layout, the type of door you’re installing, and the complexity of the project.
Removing a pocket door involves more than just taking down the door. You'll likely need to open up the wall to access the door mechanism, adjust any wiring or plumbing inside, and then rebuild the wall afterward. Costs can range from $1,000 to $3,200, depending on how much work is needed.
