"Repairman was prompt and did a fair job on Day #1 installing and painting a new 2'x2' drywall section to cover a hole left by a plumber. The texture was not a close match to the existing wall but we waived that discrepancy since the repair work was a wall on the inside of a closet. What we did not like was the repairman missed THREE follow-up appointments to complete the reinstallation of a shelf bracket (needed to wait until new drywall dried). He never called or texted to say he'd could not come for the first scheduled follow-up on Day #2. On Day #3 he finally texted a second request to move the follow-up appointment to the morning of Day #4. On Day #4 he missed the morning appointment too but did shortly afterwards texted a third request to come that afternoon. He later texted he could not make the time of his 3rd requested appointment either. I found someone else to install the shelving bracket and advised him to consider the partial payment that gave him on Day #1 as final and full payment for his services rendered."

"Terrible. Do not trust this contractor. Substandard work throughout (collapsing bedroom ceiling after framing and drywall was applied to enlarge the bedroom), very poor quality painting, dangerous and shoddy electrical work in my attic, and the contractor failed to repair the damage his debris bin caused to my asphalt driveway. Absolutely terrible experience. Sadly, the VA Regional Office in Houston paid him in full and denied me the opportunity to contest his outright lies about the asphalt damage. I shudder to think what happens to my fellow disabled Veterans who lack the background I have in electrical work, painting, etc. when this contractor does VA funded remodeling in their homes. I’ve had to involve VA Headquarters in Washington DC on these issues. I am a longtime Veterans advocate. We also are able to preform all associated work including remodeling, painting, carpentry, and gutter work. Waterproofing is our specialty. We have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau and take pride in giving our clients the best service possible.
"We hired accu-rite roofing to complete a house remodel after two other contractors bailed on us. At first they were eager to help us but soon after it was delay after delay they either had other projects and were not able to send anyone. The process took forever because sometimes they would only send one person at a time. We always asked if we were on schedule but we could never get a definite answer. 11 months later the project was completed but we had several issues with cracked flooring which took forever to get repaired. Now we have cracked ceilings where header beams were installed and now they are saying they won't cover warranty because they did not perform an excavation that they had quoted us for. This was the second time we had used accu-rite and we were hesitant to give them a second chance because of some issues we had on the first go around. But be assured there will not be a third. They are not easy to work with and everything is always the customers fault."

While it might be tempting to tackle drywall installation yourself, it's a challenging job best left to the pros. Drywall panels are heavy—each one weighs between 50 and 70 pounds—and handling them safely usually requires at least two people. Lightweight drywall panels are about 25% lighter than standard ones, making them easier to handle during installation. This can be helpful if you're doing a DIY project or working in tight spaces. However, they might not offer the same level of durability, fire resistance, or soundproofing as regular drywall. If you're looking for superior protection and a finish that lasts, standard drywall may be the better option for your walls and ceilings.
Professionally installed drywall lasts between 40 and 60 years. Drywall longevity depends on installation quality, maintenance practices, and environmental conditions. High-quality work combined with proper care ensures that drywall performs reliably for decades. Factors such as moisture, fire exposure, and physical damage can affect its lifespan, so regular inspections and timely repairs are essential for extending durability.
You don't need a permit to replace drywall if you're just swapping out old panels without making any structural changes. If you're keeping the wall positions the same and not moving any electrical or plumbing, you can go ahead without a permit. However, if your project involves adding or removing walls or altering the home's infrastructure, you'll likely need to get a permit, which can add $50 to $150 to your costs. It's always a good idea to check with your local building department to make sure you're following the rules.
