"Dreadful experience. We had been customers of Astacio since 2015 when they installed our first tankless boiler which failed completely after 7 years and needed to be replaced in late 2022. "Issue with Bell Mechanical This past August of 2024 we had a heat pump system installed in the house by Bell Mechanical. Unfortunately, we have had nothing but issues since with the biggest being no heat multiple times and now again today we are without heat in the majority of our house. It is freezing outside, we have a toddler and within the past week this is the 2nd time we have no heat (4th time since the system was put in). Not only is this a life safety issue, but it also is heart breaking to have your toddler tell you they are freezing. Looking for advice on next steps. We have never sued anyone or threatened to sue but this may be the time as we have had nothing but issues since the beginning. From the start we made it very clear that everything needed to be done to code and permitted. We were doing a lot of major renovations at our house and everything was being done to code and permitted. John (the salesman) at Bell said that was not a problem. John also told us that the only additional cost we could potentially incur outside of what he quoted us for the system and its installation would be a $500 fee for the installation of the heat strip. We accepted this and moved forward. After Bell removed our central air system and installed the new carrier system we got his with additional work needed at the tune of over 2k. Needless to say we were not happy. John told us the electrician they use and that if we used that electrician there would be no delay but if we used ours that it would cause a delay. So, we went with what John said as he was the expert. John got the electrician to come down a little in price which we were grateful for. Fast forward to when the building inspector came out to close out the permits for the work Bell did and other work being done at the house, the inspector told my contractor that the heat pump was not done to code. We were told that the electrical for it was not done to code and he could not close out the permit. My husband talked to the electrician Bell gave us who informed us that Bell told him to “cut corners” which was part of getting the cost down slightly. Reminder, we NEVER said to do this, we made it clear that everything needed to be permitted and even paid the permit fees to Bell. Back and forth with Bell and the electrician got the electrician to fix his work at no additional cost but Bell still needed to fix the outside plug which was not to code. Giovanni at Bell agreed that Bell would fix this issue at no additional cost. It has been 3 months now and Bell has still not rectified this issue and Giovanni and John are both nonresponsive to our follow-ups. Bell has also had to come out 4 additional times because our system was not working and again today, we have no heat. Today will be the 5th time they have to come out for issues on a system that is 4 months old. This is not OK. We have given Bell ample time to rectify the issues. Clearly they did not do the install properly and there is also the possibility we have a faulty system. We have never sued someone or went to court but then again, we have never had such large and costly issues."

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.
To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.
The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.
The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.
Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
