"I chose this builder from a list of 8 contractors who provided me with quotes. He was confident in the time it would take to finish my complete demo and build of the ADU on my property. Instead of telling me what he was going to do he took the time to show me several current projects he was working on. I was impressed with the quality of work and the speed in which his team built my project. He is our only contractor that we will work with from here on out."

"I hired a large company who hired ProServ as the contractor for the project. My contractor was incredible and efficient. Regretfully the company was not. Carlos, ProServ owner, made an incredibly awkward situation work out. I would give ProServ and especially Carlos rave reviews. The professionalism and honesty of the contractor and his crew is exemplary and quality of his work is exceptional."

"Mike was very committed to helping us in a time of need. He worked with the insurance in properly quoting the work to accomplish the work needing to be done from the fire. This was too much for us to deal with on our own. We do not wish to ever have a fire again, but if we ever need to hire AHW again for remodeling we definitely would. Hope all is well with all the AHW crew. Overall solid guys to work with. Srac Patel"

"Norman and his helpers are great. They repaired framing in a wall that had extensive wood rot and termite damage. The before and after was amazing. Many contractors I met with had really high bids or just seemed like they didn't want the work but Norman was prompt and his work impresses everybody. Definitely using him again."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
