Hello, my name is John Michael. I have been in the landscaping and various construction trades since I was old enough to carry a 2x4 stud, or carrying a plant to one of my family members, or learning what the various wrench's and sockets my father had in his tool boxes were used for. I could be found at work after school and on weekends and then on school holidays.Several different members of my family have(had) their own companies or were management which allowed me to start learning the do's and don't s of the various trades that I have learned. Through all these tasks over the years I have gained experience. My resume is available upon request for anyone that would like to see along with references. I started my first company in 1999, (and do to the geographical location I did not offer as many services as I do now. Besides, I would not have had time to do the work.) When I found out that my employer was taken advantage of several older women because they had never had to pay for these type of services to be done,he had charged an older woman almost three times of what it should have been. He had told me that she didn't know what the rates should be.The woman was my best friends grandmother. That following Monday I opened my landscaping and lawn care service. Please don't misunderstand me, i believe if a person gives an honest days labor they are entitled to a fair days pay, salary or other payment that had been predetermined. I take pride in my ability to find ways to save my clients as much money as possible.I do most of that by not giving up because of the level of difficulty of the tasks at hand. I do a lot of things the old fashion way, with axes, shovels, pick axes, and within reason removing stumps, transplanting trees and other various large plants. All these things are done by hand.

My name is Kent Vanattia, I am the sole owner of Arlis Home Services. What I'll tell you here, is how I came to choose this career path. I was born in Hillsboro, TN. My family owned a dairy farm. Grandpa had his own cattle but he and my Uncle also ran a "milk route". They picked up milk from other farms all over middle TN. We delivered it to a processing center along with our own milk. I learned to take care of the equipment on this farm not long after I could walk. Along the milk route, it soon became obvious to me, even as a young boy that proper maintenance sure saved a lot of time and trouble. That lesson served me well throughout my life. As a very young man, I joined the service. I found it easy to fall into a structured routine, I grew up that way. Later as I learned various trades my attention to detail and regimented style of learning and doing made it easy for me to retain and reuse my new found knowledge. And today, as I comb over a cabin for signs of potential problems or I am building a deck or other project ... I find it's the lessons of my youth that keep me on track. I named my business Arlis, because it was my dad's name. He's not with me anymore and I miss him. My Dad never did anything half-way. So naming my business after him reminds me of the lessons he taught.

Minor hairline cracks in mortar are normal as bricks settle over time. However, deep vertical cracks that widen, stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, or extensive horizontal fissures may indicate potential foundation issues. Since mortar doesn't last as long as brick—which can endure for over a century with proper maintenance—it's important to have any concerning cracks inspected by a mason to ensure your home's structural integrity.
Cleaning mortar off bricks removes old stains and debris, ensuring that new mortar adheres properly and lasts longer. Eliminating dust, moss, and lichen helps achieve a strong bond during repointing or mortar application. Professionals typically use a wire brush or pressure washer to clean the surfaces, depending on the level of contamination. If bricks are being completely replaced, cleaning the old material isn't necessary.
With proper care, brick walls can last over 100 years. Regular maintenance, such as repointing mortar every 30 to 50 years, helps preserve the wall's durability and appearance. Consistent upkeep and routine inspections ensure your brick wall remains a strong and valuable part of your home for generations.
If you want to avoid the high expenses of full brick wall restoration, installing fiber cement siding is a viable alternative. Fiber cement siding offers lasting durability and low maintenance while enhancing energy efficiency. This option costs $2 to $6 per square foot and, when installed by a professional, protects against water damage and improves your home’s exterior appearance.
