"*Note - My Renovation is in work, I will rate all the parts/processes of my project since its so large individually as it progresses to complete. Project start date: 1 July 2020 / Projected end date 31 October 2020 Living situation: Live in home while project is being done RGE Construction - Rigo (contractor) Part 1: Outside Demo and Plans (Start July 1-Present) I hired RGE Construction (Rigo) to do a large remodel on my home after interviewing 6 other contractors. He seemed very knowledgeable with drawings and his experience seemed on point. He seemed honest and straightforward, sincere and price was very fair after shopping around. We also really liked that he had his own teams of workers to do all the projects, no subcontractors thus far. (He can stand by their work). Prior, he also showed us a local project (another large renovation in work) which is now completed. Recently 9/18/2020 he showed us another local renovation he was starting. (he's not afraid to show his work) The Demo outside was stucco removal, concrete removal, ground leveling, removing half of the homes roof and completely removing a den and bedroom to be completely rebuilt at a different level (same as rest of the home). Current work also completed is they had to add a very large and thick pad of foundation for my new den/bedroom. They framed and dug up the trenches for the home extensions, we are waiting on a city inspector for them to move forward at this time. The timeline has been progressively thus far, when his team does show up they do a great job staying focused and being very productive with completing their tasks. His team has shown up on time, all the time and they work until they are finished, not on a quote, clock out time. There has been times when a date was given that his team will arrive and it didnt happen, but I did receive a call/text explaining why and when the new arrival date will be. (courtesy). My plans that I had another engineer do had to be reworked, luckily for me, Rigo had his own engineer to help with the adjustments. I reside in the City of Downey, and its during the Coronavirus time, so its been a slow process. It seems that my plans are finally approved and we are now moving forward. (9/18/20) **A few bonus mentions** 1) During the trench digging in the backyard, Rigo had to remove the air conditioner out of the way to dig the trench, and this would leave us without an air conditioner for the remainder of the project. Rigo took it upon himself to have my AC temporarily relocated so that my stay at home wife and 5 middle age to young kids and I can make it through the summer heat. 2) During the demo removal in the front yard, my water main was busted. It was probably the original 1954 one and badly corroded anyhow. Rigo ensured that we wouldnt go a single day without water and got it fixed immediately! He even had our 3/4in line upgraded to a 1in line, my water bill is now less due to my main no longer having 6-8 eroded holes in my line. 3) No, quote, Mickey Mouse Work. So far everything done looks professional, from the work done to the clean up. He and his team are professional, and if he sees something wrong, he ensures to make it right. **The bottom line** So far my project has started off well and my wife and I are pleased and thankful to be working with Rigo. My project end date is scheduled for 31st October 2020 and however Rigo schedules his workers to complete my project (time/dates), Im confident he will meet his timeline, thats the type of professional I believe Im dealing with here. My wife and I are very excited to see continued progress with October just around the corner. Next Review- Part 2: Foundation Pour Front and Back / Backyard concrete w/ Front yard walkways / Framing front and back home extensions."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
