Fence and Deck Depot is a locally-owned and operated company specializing in all your fence and deck needs. Since our founding nearly 20 years ago, we have exceeded expectations of thousands of customers. Our service area includes the entire St. Louis Metropolitan area in both Missouri and Illinois. On the fence side of our business, we offer a wide variety of choices including ornamental aluminum/steel, vinyl, multiple wood options including cedar, various chain link styles and other fence-related items. For decking, we sell and install composite, vinyl, and wood decking and handrail-systems plus aluminum deck and porch rail products. Lastly, we not only provide complete installation but also offer materials-only for the do-it-yourselfer.
"Fence was installed incorrectly - took them three separate visits to get it done properly. They put the stakes in the wrong spot when measuring, then had the audacity to say it was our fault because we weren't present during the time of the installation to tell them they were putting it in the wrong spot. First off, it's not our job to babysit a team of "professional" fence contractors to be sure they do their job right. Second, we would have loved to have been there during the fence install, but they came out with no warning while we were out of town, so we had the joy of returning home to a fence installed in the wrong spot. A bunch of debris (concrete chunks) were left in our yard after they had to remove the first fence attempt because it was put in the wrong location. I assumed they would clear out the mess they made, I guess not. They also left the holes from their first attempt filled with concrete. Since they made the mistake of installing the fence in the wrong spot, I assumed they would clear the mess they made, but instead left several giant holes in my yard filled with concrete. They refuse to remove these or compensate us for the trouble because apparently this is standard fence installation procedure, leaving giant holes filled with concrete in the middle of customer's yards. Contractors damaged our sump pump discharge pipe ($800+ repair cost and horrible damage to our yard). The owner of the company's response was basically "not our problem." They weren't open to discounting our final cost based on the repair costs Supposedly, the company's core values are (taken from their website): "Treat others how you want to be treated. From our employees to our customers and everyone in-between, we treat others with respect." I guess the owner here wishes to be treated with disrespect and wants people to destroy his property and then refuse to do anything about it. "Do it right the first time. Our team takes pride in completing a project thoroughly and professionally as if we were building in our own backyard." It's almost comical - it took them THREE attempt to get our fence installed in the proper location and without any issues like it was drawn up in the contract. "Do the Right thing. Sometimes the right thing is hard to do, other times it’s easy. Either way, we always do what is right for our customers and our company – even when no one is looking." Apparently the right thing to do in this situation is cause hundreds of dollars of damage to someones home and then avoid taking any responsibility for it. Sounds like the right thing to do, nice work, guys. "Our crews will exceed your expectations with a drama-free installation of your new fence or deck." Can't help but laugh. I cannot emphasize how much I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone. AVOID AT ALL COSTS"

"We contracted with Alpha to install 2 sets of fences on 2 new homes we had built in the city and did not have a favorable experience with the company. We ordered non-dog eared planks for the fence and on the day of the install they only had dog eared and said it could be a while before they could get the right materials.... They were already late and behind schedule because they had put up fence without the inspector viewing the holes that were dug for the posts -- they had to tear down a newly constructed portion of the fence, re-dig holes, and wait for the inspector to see it. This added weeks to our project and we had to settle for materials we did not want. Our general contractor asked them to make it right some way and nothing was offered or done -- we paid the original price of the project. The finished fence is nice, but it is not what we ordered and they cost us money on our project because of all the delays."

Yes, you need to galvanize your wrought iron fence to protect it from rain and ensure its long-term durability. Galvanizing adds a protective zinc coating to the iron, preventing rust and corrosion caused by moisture exposure. This process involves dipping the iron into molten zinc, creating a barrier against the elements. While galvanized iron comes pre-treated, regular maintenance like painting with special outdoor iron paint can further enhance protection and reduce the risk of rust.
An average wrought iron fence costs more upfront than a wood fence but offers greater longevity and lower maintenance costs over time. While installing wood fencing is initially less expensive, ranging between $1,700 and $3,900, wood requires regular upkeep and may need replacing sooner. Wrought iron fencing, though more costly initially, can last a lifetime with minimal maintenance, making it a better long-term investment compared to wood fencing.
Painting a wrought iron fence usually costs between $8 and $10 per linear foot when hiring a professional. If you choose to do it yourself, you can save on labor costs, but be sure to use proper materials and techniques to ensure durability. Depending on the condition of your wrought iron fence, it may benefit from rust removal and multiple coats of paint. Choosing the right paint can make your fence more attractive and increase its long-term durability.
With proper maintenance, a high-quality wrought iron fence can last anywhere from 50 to 100 years. Keeping up with regular cleaning and refinishing every two to three years will help prevent rust and keep your fence looking its best. Consult a local wrought iron fence professional for suggestions on how to extend the lifespan of this specialty fence.
