Walterscheids WaterFree Grass is family owned, operated, and the only synthetic turf company on the Western Slope. Leonard Walterscheid and his son Daniel Walterscheid decided to join forces to create a small business while Daniel attended college at Colorado Mesa University. Leonard wanted to team up with his son to teach him how to manage and grow a business so when Daniel graduated in spring of 2014 he could have an established business to take over. Being a Former Chicago Bear and a family continually involved in football, you could ask who has more experience on turf? After many months of research Daniel and Leonard became dealers as well as certified installers with ProGreen because of their dedication to quality products, superior service/support, and attention to detail.
"Daniel and his crew were very professional and accommodating and did an Amazing job. We are more than happy with everything and how everything turned out! I would recommend him and his crew, they did a fantastic work! Thank you"

"The services, from the sales rep Frank, (who cussed in front of my 3 year old, failed to respond to messages and walked off the job), to the unresponsive management and unreturned phone calls after an incomplete job leaves us without thousands of dollars and a horrible looking lawn. They did not finish the job nor offer to remediate, only stating we were “confrontational” after asking what they would do to fix the problems. Even if that was true (which it is not), the job we paid for is still not completed, confrontations or not, and that is what we paid for. New sod, not their opinions on how we handles our unhappiness with their lack of professionalism. They left an unfinished job with 100% of our money up front. They even broke our fence! Take it from us, do not do business with anyone who asks for all up front if the job isn’t complete. Sod was left out in sun on a pallet in 100 degree heat for 5+ hours dying before it was started to be installed, the ground was not properly prepped, and weeds and grass are now growing from underneath the new sod laid. They laid the sod in the wrong places. They left a mess, were unprofessional, disrespectful, and sadly did not operate in a Christian manner. We are having another local landscaper have to fix the problems, and they are shocked at the way our lawn was left by this company. Save your money and do business elsewhere. I guess turf masters does not care to help their customers. BBB will hear from us, as will Secretary of State and beyond. We are just shocked this is the way they operate."

Spring is the sweet spot for yard leveling. The soil has enough moisture to shape easily but is still firm enough to stay put once you finish grading. Tackle the project before summer downpours arrive, and you’ll improve drainage, reduce erosion, and give new grass time to take root. Leveling in early spring also helps pros schedule followup landscaping before the busy season hits.
A pro crew typically needs five to six days to level an average‑size yard. Smaller spots may wrap up in a single day, while a sprawling or steep property can stretch the timeline to a full week. Those days cover everything from prep and initial grading to final touch‑ups that leave the surface stable and ready for new landscaping. Building this window into your schedule keeps the project on track and ensures long-lasting results.
Leave a four‑inch gap between finished soil and both the top of the foundation and the bottom edge of the siding. That clearance lets water run off instead of slipping inside and keeps pests from finding an easy path indoors. Sticking to this measurement protects the structure, preserves proper drainage, and helps you avoid costly repairs down the road.
Grading tilts the ground so water flows away from your foundation; leveling smooths out bumps so you can mow, entertain, or add hardscaping with ease. Most projects need a mix of both—grade first for drainage, then fine‑tune the surface for a neat, user‑friendly lawn. Combining the two protects the house and boosts curb appeal in one pass.
