"He was terminated by my lawyer and was reported to the consumer protection department. He installed recessed lights in the kitchen and living room. None of them work. It cannot be turned off in the living room and it doesn't work at all in the kitchen. In addition to that, all electric outlets lost power in the kitchen. He was dragging a 2 weeks project into 4 weeks. He disappeared after saying he didn't know how to fix it. Also all bathroom and kitchen plumbing works wrong. Leaking and improperly connected. He always sends workers from the street. Very rarely show up. Coming very late and disappearing . He got money (100% painting, 50% kitchen, 50% flooring), but he asked $700 more for the incomplete flooring work. He called police to have his few items left because he never showed up again. He got his belongings under the police observation. His cabinet installation, the kitchen cabinet store manager was laughing because he installed the top first which had a 3 inches gap between the ceiling and the cabinet. The store manager said that he had never seen anything like this before. I had to hire the electrical company, the plumber and handyman to fix all of his work. Paid $3,800 to them."

"I've hired Jim and his team for several projects in the past year, including the reconstruction of an outdoor porch; installing a bathroom fan and running its venting to the outside; fixing up rotten boards and checking the integrity of a second floor porch; and replacing the ceiling, flooring, a window, and areas of the walls in an area of my house that I’m hoping to eventually rent out as a separate unit. As the owner of a multifamily property, I appreciated that Jim has had personal experience himself in managing and owning properties, and therefore had expertise in knowing the types of repairs that would be important and necessary for an owner/landlord. In addition to the time and effort that Shorty, Juan, and the other members of Jim's team put into each project, Jim also recommended and connected me with other contractors, including an electrician whom I've now worked with several times; a gutter installation company; and a masonry contractor who ended up installing a front retaining wall for me. As a final note to Jim's professionalism, when there was a period of extreme cold over the winter that could've caused particular damage to pipes in the upper floors of my house because of their placement near the outside, Jim personally called me to remind me to plug in the heated wire coilings that he had installed around the water pipes on my third floor. Pocket doors are more expensive than standard pre-hung doors. While a standard interior door installation costs around $150 to $200, installing a pocket door can run from $1,000 to $3,500, especially on existing walls. While more costly, installing pocket doors offers benefits like saving space and modern aesthetics that are worth the added expense.
To frame or retrofit a pocket door, you'd need to modify an existing wall to fit the door and its hardware. This process involves opening the wall, ensuring the door has space to slide, and adjusting any wiring or plumbing inside. After creating space, a new frame and track are installed so the door functions properly.
You can use some standard doors as pocket doors, but they must fit the required dimensions. The door has to slide smoothly into the wall cavity, so it must be the right size and thickness. Also, any existing hardware holes need to be adjusted or covered up to work correctly, increasing labor costs.
For a pocket door, you need enough wall space for the door to slide into. A standard 32-inch-wide door requires about 66 inches of wall space in total—including the doorway and the pocket. The wall you install it in should be at least four inches deep to fit the door's thickness.
Installing a pocket door usually takes about six to 12 hours. If your project requires extra work like wall modifications or electrical adjustments, it might take a couple of days. The exact time depends on your home's layout, the type of door you’re installing, and the complexity of the project.
Removing a pocket door involves more than just taking down the door. You'll likely need to open up the wall to access the door mechanism, adjust any wiring or plumbing inside, and then rebuild the wall afterward. Costs can range from $1,000 to $3,200, depending on how much work is needed.
