"Sunday afternoon we went down to the basement for pool supplies and found that our 80 gallon water heater had sprung a leak. We cleaned up what we could and contacted Lowe's. Later that night I checked ANGI's to see who was in my area. Jordan reached out to me the next morning and requested photos of my current water heater and it's placement. He asked a few questions about my needs and within 10 minutes, I had received a quote. I told him I was waiting for a big box store to get back to me and I would contact him following that. Not only was his quote 50% LESS than Lowes, but he didn't try to upsell me parts I didn't need. Jordan installed a hybrid water heater, replaced valves and even checked my gas stove for a leak before he left! He was friendly, efficient and extremely professional. He vacuumed up all the water and left it cleaner than it began. He explained all the settings on the new water heater. The job was completed in less than 2 hours. I would highly recommend him! We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Licensing

We require all pros to attest that they carry the appropriate local and state licensing to practice their trade. Please note that HomeAdvisor does not confirm licensing. Do your own research using online ratings, reviews and through phone interviews before hiring a company.

State Business Filings

If a business states that it's registered as a corporation or limited liability company, we confirm that the company is in good standing in the state in which they operate.
