"PDX Custom Woodwork ruined our house and wasted our time and money. We spent $62k for them to spend 6 months demoing and painting. We didn't hear from Lina for at least 3 months of this, only the occasional text from Manuel. Even at their best, they rarely communicated with us and it was like pulling teeth to find out what amounts of materials WE had to order, including our own carpet/padding and tile cement, which is not standard. They also never visited the site or had a project manager overseeing the work being done. We had to beg them to come to the property and that still only produced a monthly visit, at best. Their workers came mainly on weekends so it's clear they were prioritizing many newer projects over ours. Ultimately, they barely completed $20k in work- of which, none of those projects were totally finished- and have done about THREE TIMES that amount in DAMAGES to our property, bringing the total to around $100-120k. They gave us half our kitchen cabinet doors three months ago then kept telling us the rest were on the way. Though all of the built-ins we hired them to redo were demolished, they never fabricated the new ones. We paid for all our flooring materials ourselves, which is not an industry standard, and they had the audacity to ruin them FOUR times. We shouldn't have given them the benefit of the doubt when they said they'd fix it. The patterned carpet was cut at an angle on every single piece and they ripped up carpet in places they shouldnt have, leaving us to buy and replace even more of it. Their "painters" got paint on multiple stained wood doors (including the front door and sidelights) that we were keeping, as well as every kitchen appliance including inside our garbage disposal, and in ALL of our brand new outlets and on the light switches. They also ripped a knob off of our oven range, dented all the doors on our new fridge, covered our kitchen chandelier and living room ceiling fan with paint and damaged our brand new fireplace that they were supposed to wrap in stone for us. They washed their brushes in our bathroom sink and left paint in rooms not being renovated. They made changes to another contractor’s city-permitted work between inspections, and without telling us even when we were on site. We had to correct them on measurements multiple times because they couldn't do it accurately themselves. This was maybe 1/4th of the work we wanted to bid from them. We wanted to be repeat customers, do bigger renovations, and go the long haul, but Lina and Manuel made it impossible. Our home has been unusable for half a year with nothing to show for it. Most of the work, including the over-sprayed paint job, will need to be redone, because it's spotty, has rough texture and the ceiling got the wall/cabinet paint on it in multiple areas. They didn't even seal our tile or countertops, which were the only things we thought they had completed, but didn't. Instead, we have to now file a complaint and hire new contractors, that know what they are doing this time, to finish the job."

We are happy to provide handyman, home repair and home improvement services to the broader Portland area - from Oregon City to Scappose and Forest Grove to Gresham, including Lake Oswego, West Linn, Beaverton, and all areas of Portland. Our specialty is anything in and around the home (or business) that takes between two hours and two days to complete. We offer free over-the-phone estimates and firm appointment times to save you time, all our handymen are licensed, bonded, and ensured as our employees, and we guarantee our work for a year.
"I was charged $150 to have nothing done except make work for myself moving everything out of the room and now moving it back in. Where to begin, first off…do yourself a favor. Anything more than say a small job that you could probably do yourself with a youtube video showing you step by step, get a legit service to come on out and view the job with their own eyeballs to tell you if they can do it. The individual who showed up was very nice so I lay no blame on him, but I spoke over the phone with their main office about having some floor squeaks I wanted fixed. Pull back carpet, find joists, screw it down and put carpet back. I was told that some parts of the carpet could tear and that but fixing the squeak another squeak maybe in time shows up elsewhere. I understood what was said and was told the 4 hour package should be what I need. We moved forward… Our guy arrived on time but we cleared the room to make it easy and was told he can pull the carpet or drill through carpet, but I wanted it done right, he mentioned they do not put the carpet back. On the phone when I agreed to go forward, I was told that it would go back and even knew the risks but a few times our guy said, “no we do not put the carpet back” and you need a carpet specialist. Then when the 1 job was a wash, I was informed I must pay $150 for the trip out which we were both very upset about. I asked him to just try and install a light fixture to make use of the hour though I was going to do it myself later. Through no fault of his own, when the box opened it was missing a critical mounting component. So, no light mounted. In short, unless it is an ULTRA small job, get people who specialize in your needs. People need to come out and inspect the job so the handyman knows what the job is exactly rather than an office saying they can do anything no problem and then not deliver. I was told they can reschedule and do everything then I can call a carpet specialist to put the old carpet back down as it was to simply be rolled back some, at that point I’d rather 1 person do it all and Ace is NOT it. The house has lots of small projects but honestly, I don’t see myself ever using them again. I honestly feel like I was robbed."

Hello Neighbors! My name is Tony, I am the carpenter and handyman, so if there is something you would like done I'm the guy to ask. We do concrete work, fences, decks, window/door replacement and installation, dry rot repair, siding, pressure washing, painting interior and exterior, installation of appliances, flooring, interior and exterior trim, framing, and installation of new light fixtures. Please visit us on facebook for pictures you can reference my quality work over the years along with all of the positive feedback from people I've worked for. If you have any ideas in mind or projects we would love to hear from you.
"I recently hired Koa Construction to fix the exterior wall surrounding our gas fireplace that had some damage and dry-rot and we couldn't be happier with the results! Tony is professional, friendly and delivers high-quality work at a fair cost. He talks you through the process and shares all options so you can choose the best one for you. The communication and transparency throughout the project already separate Tony from others but his work speaks for itself. I highly recommend Koa Construction to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality service. We look forward to working with Tony again this Spring to build us a semi-covered pergola over our hot tub."

Castillo Construction has over 5+ years of experience and is committed to excellence in every aspect of our business. We uphold a standard of integrity bound by fairness, honesty, and personal responsibility. Our distinction is the quality of service we bring to our customers. Accurate knowledge of our trade combined with ability is what makes us true professionals. Above all, we are watchful of our customers interests and make their concerns the basis of our business.
"First off, Alex is a good guy, very friendly, and has decent communication. Unfortunately for our garage remodel project, he overestimated his skill level and hired inexperienced subs. We hired Castillo as a GC for our project, and after months of delays, backsteps, and redos, when we finally had to let him go from the job. We ended up having to redo 90% of the work with a new contractor."

Residential remodel/repair and handyman service. Interior and exterior work. Basement remodel are our specialty. Work both by quote or hourly. 100% referral, word of mouth
"Where to start, I hired Jim at Evolution to do an exterior home remodel. This was three years ago. This included windows, siding, doors, roof, and gutters. Two jobs (the house roof and the gutters) were done by two other companies that he hired. The gutters are leaking and not doing their job at this point. They are not blocked nor do they have debris in them. The seams are failing. There are three spots currently. Also they put a downspout in the middle of the gutter and not on the end. So there’s issues associated with that. Jim was to do the siding, windows, screen doors, basement door, and carport roof. His costs were the best out of several contractors and he was recommended by a friend. We were drawn to another company but we decided to go with Evolution and Jim. So I mentioned the carport, we needed to redo it. I am a novice when it comes to building but I figured I could build the carport and have Jim roof it (originally it was going to be the other subcontracted roofers doing it). So I constructed, after doing research, the carport. Jim arrives and says it’s too flat and that it’s not safe to shingle it. so he says we could but corrugated plastic up in its place. I agree to that as I am assuming he knows what he’s talking about. He proceeds to do the job. The carport roof, the siding, the windows. I recently installed a patio with pavers right before he started his work here. I with my neighbors help did the work. My neighbor then installed a concrete border around the patio. At one point Jim and his crew rent a scissor lift and proceed to drive it (I think the sticker said 2500 pounds on the side of the machine) onto the patio to instal a window upstairs. They cracked the new concrete border and cracked about 10 pavers. They decided not to mention it to me, but I noticed it. I waited till the end of the day when Jim was sitting in his vehicle to leave and I approached him. He said they would fix it. Their fix was flipping the pavers over and not addressing the cracked concrete border. Disappointing but ok. So back to the carport which is my ultimate complaint. Jim completes all the projects including the plastic on the carport. Within days there are multiple leaks on the carport. Jim sends a helper out to put some caulk on it. The next day it’s leaking all along where the plastic meets the newly shingled roof. I contact Jim about the situation and he says “I’m washing my hands clean of this problem”. I plead with him to help address it and he sends me a email saying I screwed up the carport and that if an inspector saw it they would make me take it down. So I drop it. Over the next three years we are to the point of replacing the roof, yet the carport structure is solid. The plastic has shattered on the south side where it wasn’t connected properly, no flashing was installed so the water has damaged all of his supports causing them to warp, it leaks everywhere rendering the carport useless. Since Jim refused to address it I contacted another contractor to see what they could do. They came out and determined Jim botched the carport roof in several ways. No flashing, un proper cross beam placement, un proper overlap of plastic, un proper attachment to my structure. My structure was sound with no issues. So I reach out to Jim again about the issue and asked him repeatedly to come back out to see what was happening, in hopes he would fix it. It has been three years at this point. He doubled down with what he said before. Got upset that I asked another contractor to look at it (even though he refused too). He repeatedly asked me if I wanted him to come out. Which I reply with yes, over and over again. He never came. To be blunt he was incredibly rude. I’ll happily post what he wrote of the need arises. The bottom line to me is this. If I built the structure poorly (as he claimed… even though I think he wanted to initially do it but cost prevented it) why would you cover something that was built poorly. I would of said I can’t legally cover that structure or maybe even it’s built in a way that I can’t insure a leak free roof (again it was a matter of days I reported leaks to him). Secondly after I paid over 50,000 dollars to him, why wouldn’t you try to fix the roof just to be helpful especially since I contacted him within days. Thirdly why be a rude and condescending. Overall it was a huge let down. The new carport roof will cost about 3000. All his supports and the plastic top. The patio damage and the lack of care in fixing his issues he created. I would never recommend Jim or Evolution."

Finish carpenters provide finishing touches after the primary building of a structure is done. This includes installing baseboards, molding (crown), stairs, doors, windows trim, hardwood floors, custom and expert tiling. Im able to do much of it myself or with an employee and sub contract when needed. I also provide supervisory services as a licensed and bonded Residential General Contractor. We always provide fair bids and can usually out bid competition with a 10% discount.
"Matt and Dan were fantastic and went above and beyond throughout the course of the project. They were knowledgeable, professional, and focused on the details consistently. Even when issues popped up they were quick to find solutions and implement them. Highly recommend working with them for any renovation, we will definitely be using them in the future for any projects we have."

Always choose high-quality furniture-grade wood for a built-in bookshelf. Softer woods, including pine and particle boards like MDF, can sag under the weight of heavy books. The ideal shelf can hold 20 to 40 pounds per foot, so opt for scratch-resistant hardwood plywood or solid wood. Popular options include mahogany, cherry, koa, maple, oak, walnut, birch, and cedar.
Built-in bookshelves should seamlessly blend into your space. Often, this means floor-to-ceiling units ending at a natural cutoff point like a door. You can also create a custom corner unit or suspended units hung at eye level. If you want to install a prefabricated unit, you’ll often see sizes ranging from 24 to 48 inches wide, 10 to 12 inches deep, and five to six feet tall.
The time it takes to install a built-in bookshelf depends on the complexity of the design. A contractor can install a simple, prefabricated unit in a few hours, while an elaborate, custom unit could take up to a week.
