His team came in and plastic'd over everything (and I mean *everything*) so that no dust ended up on our pictures, kitchen, or anywhere else for that matter. The end result was better than I had expected - 20 years of life, dogs, beach sand, etc had brought many areas of the floor down to bare wood and very dulled finish (where any finish was left) - the brought it back to its former glory. Calvin told us he learned the trade from his dad and has 25 years of experience. Our hardwood floors were sanded down to the raw wood, treated, and we chose not to put a stain on the oak. Calvin cut and installed new baseboards. The result was beautiful. Now let's talk "dust free". Everyone said it can not be done. Calvin proved us all wrong. He has invested in some state of the art equipment so when he is sanding the floors all the dust is contained in some kind of tubing and goes into a machine. There truly was not any dust residue left on the mirrors and shelves that were still in the room. We have lived through our hardwood floor being refinished in another home, and if I did not experience this dustless method I would not have believed it. Other companies we interviewed for the job said we had to move out for at least a week. Not so with C H Floors. While we were gone during the days it was not a problem to use the kitchen and sleep in our home in the evenings. The estimate Calvin quoted us was comparable with the other estimates we received. You can also refinish your floors after removing wall-to-wall carpeting or after significant disrepair from traffic, sun, or water damage. The final price you’ll pay for this home improvement project depends on the type of hardwood floor you have, local labor rates, and if you require any additional repairs or other tasks, like buffing and polishing.
Sanding is crucial to refinishing a floor properly, but to see whether your floor can go without sanding, perform a spot test on an inconspicuous, small area. Rub your hardwood with a sanding screen and apply a coat of polyurethane. If there's no residue after 24 hours, you can refinish your hardwood floors without sanding. However, you don't need to sand if you're recoating or polishing floors without underlying damage.
The best way to maintain hardwood floors is to clean them regularly with a push broom and use a mop with a cloth pad. Only use cleaning products designated for hardwood floors. Otherwise, you could damage them by stripping the finish. To remove tough stains, take steel wool and mineral spirits and buff gently with wax. Finally, you’ll want to install window treatments to ensure sunlight doesn’t discolor your hardwood floors.
