"Bill is so awesome! I had a leaking sewer pipe in the basement that leaked from the unfinished part to the finished part of the basement. The leak was so bad, it almost filled a 32 gallon trash can I had put underneath the leak! Bill stopped by and told me what the problems could be and suggested we go the cheaper route first, which was have someone go out to the sewer clean out to unclog it. He knew someone who would do it for a few hundred bucks and told me before he left that he?d contact him tomorrow and have him come out. Not too long after, he called me and told me he contacted my township and said they had a free emergency service for backed sewer lines and he gave them my address to unclog the line. The township came and unclogged the line. I had my daughter flush the toilet and run the water to make sure there was no leak and?leak was gone! Bill, I want to thank you so much! You literally saved me hundreds of dollars! I would recommend his business to anyone looking for a contractor who not only does a good job, but also cares about people. "I hired Four Leaf Restoration to install a sump pump system in my dirt floor crawlspace. Mike, the owner, is a consummate professional and very honest and straightforward in communications regarding what needs to be done. He gave me a thorough report and estimate following his inspection. For the work that had to be done, his pricing was very fair. Due to recent storms, he was already fully booked but sent his crew over to start working the following weekend. Those guys did an amazing job: removed all of the tar paper covering the dirt floor and all the insulation overhead so they could inspect thoroughly for any mold due to humidity and any moisture that might have occurred. They sprayed the entire crawlspace in case there was unseen mold, then followed up with a spray mold deterrent. The sump pump and drainage system were installed and the entire floor was covered with a heavy gauge plastic. All new insulation was also installed. The crew dug a french drain out in my yard for the sump pump drain and tied in downspouts on that side to fully divert water away from the house. At the end of each day, they cleaned everything up. They did an amazing job! The man who does my annual termite inspection said he has never been in a crawlspace that is that clean and that actually smells good. Mike also recommended a dehumidifier for the crawlspace for summer months (same one he uses in his home). While he doesn't sell them, he gave me a link to a website and came by to set it up after it arrived. You will not find a more honest or hardworking company than Mike's Four Leaf Restoration. I cannot say enough good things about them. He was referred to me by a co-worker and I am so grateful for that referral!! Sump pump or interior foundation drains installations FAQs
Most 1/3 to 1/2-horsepower sump pumps use 1,300 to 2,900 watts to start up. Then, they use 800 to 1,050 watts to continue running until the reservoir is empty.
To find the right sump pump size, dig out your 18-inch-wide reservoir and observe the water accumulation on a rainy day. Start with an empty reservoir and watch the rainfall for one full minute. Measure the depth of the rainwater in inches and multiply by 60 to find the total number of gallons that build up. Multiply that number by 1.5 for a bit of wiggle room. If it’s more than 35 gallons per minute, get a 3/4-horsepower unit. Otherwise, 1/3 to 1/2-horsepower models will work.
If your sump pump is making a lot of noise, it may be time for a replacement. Other signs that your sump pump may be damaged include sump pump odors, a spike in your utility bills, or excessive pump vibrations.
You don’t necessarily need a plumber to install a sump pump. You may want to hire a handyperson or a specialized sump pump repair pro to handle the replacement or installation.
Not every basement needs a sump pump. You only need a sump pump if your basement floods during light to heavy rain. If you notice basement condensation instead, you might need basic waterproofing services.
