"A Cut Above many other Contractors! We had needed brick pointing done on our home for a few years. We are also in the middle of a renovation project for our game room and that included the installation of a sliding glass door where a window was. The door install required that a steel lintel be moved up to accommodate the height of the new door. We were very fortunate that we called Michener Chimney and Masonry to come and have a look. They came out in a timely fashion and gave their estimate to us in just a few days. Once we agreed to get the work done, Jim and his team from Michener began the work quickly. They were professional and friendly and did a wonderful job on all of the aspects of the project. Communication with them was easy, clear and accurate. "We have an old carpet which had never been cleaned. It had pet stains. He explained that it may not be possible to get the stains out because there were old stains. He pre-treated & steamed as best he could. Worked pretty well. Gave us booties to wear over shoes while carpet was wet. We also bought his carpet stain cleaner to use for new stains. (We have a cat & an old dog with kidney issues.) Once carpet dried we could see some of stains wick up which can happen. We have solid beige color carpet. But it still looks a lot better than it did! Jim was courteous & professional. He fit us in his schedule the day after I contacted him because he had a to re-schedule a customer. Otherwise he was booked all the following week. He doesn't accept credit cards but that's okay with us."

"Words cannot describe just how fantastic Evan and his crew are. I had an EXTREMELY dusty and dirty house that had sat empty for a number of years. It required a Herculean effort, and the owner Evan and his crew were more than equal to the task. Evan is extremely organized and had a checklist for what needed to happen in each room. He and his crew worked non-stop for over 10 hours the first day, and came back for a few more hours to finish the next day. Initially, he came over to look at the state of the house and gave me an estimate, but I recognized that it was hard to estimate and that the cost might go over a little, which it did, but I was fine with that because of the unique situation of such a disasterously dirty house, and because I witnessed first hand how hard they all worked. There was no goofing off or slow-rolling. They worked hard every minute and more than earned every penny. The only break was a quick one for lunch the first day and then they got right back to it. The entire crew are incredible -- not only first rate cleaners, but more importantly, first rate people. Young men of character -- intelligent, diligent, hardworking, focused, honest, extremely trustworthy -- and above all, they all take great pride in doing an excellent job (which they did). Chimney caps are necessary to keep animals, water, and debris from falling into your home. They also control the wind to minimize the risk of a backdraft. If you use your fireplace, a chimney cap is crucial to keep dangerous embers from flying out the top of your chimney.
No, chimney caps do not keep rain out entirely. However, chimney caps minimize rain and ice accumulation inside the chimney, preventing significant water or ice buildup in your home. They must remain partially open to allow exhaust to escape. As such, they do not provide a completely waterproof barrier.
Chimney caps can last three to 25 years or longer, depending on the quality of the material. Galvanized chimney caps tend to have shorter lifespans, but stainless steel, aluminum, and copper caps can last more than 25 years, making them some of the soundest chimney cap investments you can make.
Generally, the top of the chimney cap must be at least five inches above the top of the flue. If you hire a handyperson for your chimney cap installation, they can advise on the size and type of cap to purchase.
Chimney crowns—similar to chimney chase covers—are flat areas directly beneath the chimney cap. The installer reinforces the top of the chimney with mortar or concrete to shed water and provide a protective cover for your chimney, sealing the top. A chimney cap is still necessary to protect the flue against weather and animals.
