"My well pump pressure tank needed service and I called Friday and Barbara was very professional and eager to help. She took the time to understand the issue and even reviewed the pictures. Barbara is very passionate about her job. She was able to schedule for Saturday. Dave came out. He called to let me know that he was on his way and let me know when he will arrive. He was very punctual, professional, friendly, and down to business. Totally impressed with the way he solved the problem and made sure that answered all of my questions. This company is very ethical and I would recommend them to anyone."

"Job well done! It only took 2 hours to install a new water heater. The owner Alfred and along side him with his helper both did a great job! He installed and removed my old water heater all for only $1825.00 with an 10% discount for being a new customer. Customer service was great. My family is very impressed with a job well done and we will definitely use him for any future services."

"Doug answered my request for an emergency service after my home lost all water pressure / flow late at night. He called first thing in the morning and was able to immediately help me out. The team arrived on time as anticipated and were very friendly. They quickly diagnosed my problem and answered all of my questions. SOMD Plumbing came prepared for the possibilities we discussed ahead of time and had my home's well pump replaced and water flowing to my home very quickly. I would highly recommend SOMD Plumbing to anyone looking for any plumbing need."

"Our service technician was David. He arrived earlier than expected and went straight to work. Our new pump was installed in less than one hour. We were pleased with the work. He came after hours 6:30pm and did not charge an exorbitant fee. He was pleasant and very informative when asked questions. If there was a topic he was not familiar with he answer "I'm not sure". I like reliable companies with professional employees. We had another plumber come earlier and wanted to charge us $452 dollars for a 1/2 HP pump that cost on average $242, $200 for accessories for installation (I paid $276 taxes included for pump and accessories), labor charge to go and pick up the pump and to install the pump. His price $1252. I was told that it was considered an emergency so that is why the price was so high. This was the morning two days after the flood. After we got the pump we called several times and no response as of yet, He's off my list completely. I share this illustration so that buyers can make educated decisions about how best to spend their money. I don't assume that the plumber whose charges were 50% higher than anyone else I called on Angies List. I simply say do your homework and know what is considered a fair price. Thank you Jerry's Heating and Plumbing. You do excellent work in a timely fashion!"

"Went very well; I would recommend Pipes & Pumps.  The technician, Ira, was on time and called ahead.  He was very thorough in his explanation of the work to be done and it was completed without any surprises or alterations.  He did a great job and the finished product looked professional and works perfectly thus far.  The whole house inspection was helpful and he recommended specific areas for followup work, but no further pressure.  Highly pleased with the quality of the work done and overall professionalism of the company.

FAQs for well pump repair or service projects in Mechanicsville, MD

A standard well inspection begins with a visual inspection of the pump, casing, storage tank, and wiring, followed by flow rate tests and laboratory-based water sampling. The goal is to confirm that every part meets safety standards and to identify any necessary repairs before they become expensive. An inspector will also test your water quality for substances such as volatile organic compounds and any local containment concerns.

Book a licensed, insured well specialist for your inspection. Many well‑pump contractors also hold inspection credentials. They’ll bring the right tools to assess the pump, wiring, and water quality, and provide you with a clear report on any necessary fixes. Before you hire, confirm their license, insurance, and recent customer reviews.

Plan on a full well inspection every year. You’ll also want one any time the cap comes off, after septic repairs, or if flooding occurs. Annual tests look for total and fecal coliform; every two years, the lab should screen for metals and nitrates, and every five years for VOCs and pesticides. If you’re buying a home with a private well, it’s essential to schedule a pre-purchase inspection.

With routine care, most wells supply clean water for up to 40 years. Lifespan depends on the type and how well you protect it. To help it reach the maximum lifespan, keep hazardous products far from the casing, ensure the cap stays sealed, schedule yearly inspections, and address problems as soon as they appear. Good habits keep the system healthy and the water safe.

The average cost of well repairs ranges from $100 to $2,800. Your final bill depends on which part—pump, pressure tank, casing, or piping—needs attention and the level of complexity involved in the repair. A thorough inspection identifies the problem, allowing you to budget accurately and avoid paying for unnecessary parts or services.
