"We used Mullican engineered flooring; it was handscrapped hickory and once it was installed, the wood itself had several spots that opened up to the plywood below.  I suppose this was because of the stressing that was done to the planks...but it just looked a bit cheap.  This wasn't Scott's problem, I just don't think this type of wood fits with my décor.  Nor do I think Mullican should have wood stressed so much that the plywood below shows!  I will definitely be using a different wood for the rest of the house.
