"I selected Schonhardt and Sons to remodel our kitchen and dining room, add a 4 season porch and a deck. I met them at the Maple Grove Home Show, impressed with their work that was on display, web site, and references I hired them for our project. Nick's area of expertise was kitchen cabinet design and creation. Nick met with my wife Cindy and myself twice, gathering ideas that we had and incorporating them with his. In addition, we also had several emails, phone conversations, and texts during the process. He was open to ideas that Cindy and I had found looking at several books from companies that were featured at the big box stores. We made notes and asked Nick if he could...? Every time he shared yes he could, and talked how it could become part of our plans. One of the greatest examples is the trash and recycle center, we had a small space and he came up with the design and even added a space for grocery bags! The hardest part was after seeing the plans and being anxious for it to happen instantly, we had to wait for Nick to create his master piece. I came home from work on installation day and was totally amazed!!! The quality, beautiful stain and finish, the attention to detail, all of the options that we had asked for from bread boards to silverware drawer, was outstanding! Cindy came home and said oh my - I love it!!! The whole creation came together as the hard wood floors, appliances, were installed. Cindy came home after the stove was installed - she was speechless I could see the amazement in her expression! Thank you Nick for taking our hopes and dreams and turn them into our dream kitchen! HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.
Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
