Scotty's Lawn Equipment has been serving the Tri-state area since 1965. Scotty's is conveniently located at the corner of Hwy 41 and Interstate 64. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday 8am - 5pm. Over time and through hard work, Scotty’s Lawn Equipment remains a locally-owned business that strives to find more ways to better serve the customer. Great products, personal attention, convenient services, and a friendly smile are what sets Scotty’s apart from the rest. It is the community that brought Scotty’s from a humble beginning to where it is today. It is the community that Scotty’s will continue to serve for years to come.

"My family had been going to Scotty's for 25 to 30 years. I had/have breast cancer and problems in hip, knee and shoulder from a MVA and can hardly drive. I have to move so my brother can help me with our mother and need to top off the hill that one can see from the street. The lawn has not be mowed for one month. When I took it in they stated two weeks behind. I had to pick it up to take it elsewhere this year due to the above. The damaged my bumper and it is 500$ to fix. They stated they had more disability than I do regardless of our past business. I took the mower to some one else who helped me get the mower out and noted the damage to the bumper. It just came from the body shop to have a trim placed. The damage was not present at 7 AM today. The mower wheels were over the bumper. I filed a claim for comprehensive with my insurance and let them deal with them. No hurry to anyone with medical problem with disabilities and they blamed me for needing it repaired. Way to go!"

Tree stump removals FAQs

Yes, grinding a stump is worthwhile if you plan to use the area for planting, recreation, or building. Removing the stump clears space for new landscaping or construction projects. Additionally, as the stump decomposes, it can rob the soil of nitrogen, affecting the growth of other plants. Stumps are also a tripping hazard, making removal a wise choice.

The time it takes to grind a stump depends on its size, density, and the grinder's performance. A small, soft stump can be ground in 15 minutes, while a large, dense stump may require up to eight hours for complete removal. Factors like the stump's structure and your grinding technique affect how quickly you can remove it.

Grinding a stump is often the best solution for clearing an area for construction or planting. It removes the visible portion of the stump, but the roots remain underground. If you need to remove the roots for long-term stability or design plans, you'll need to hire a professional for full stump and root removal. This ensures your site is completely cleared for future projects.

Leaving a tree stump in your yard can cause several problems. It can become a breeding ground for pests and diseases that might harm nearby trees and structures. Plus, the decaying stump can interfere with your landscaping plans, making mowing difficult and promoting unwanted new growth that can disrupt soil stability. Removing the stump eliminates these risks and improves your yard's safety and appearance.

To effectively kill a stump, you need to interrupt its nutrient supply and speed up decay. Drill holes into the stump and fill them with a concentrated herbicide like glyphosate, rock salt, or Epsom salt. This method ensures the substance penetrates deeply. Alternatively, cover the stump with a dark, heavy-duty tarp to deprive it of sunlight, which accelerates the process. Remember to follow safety guidelines when using these methods.
