"I have a house with an unfinished basement. I finished most of a bathroom downstairs but not the stand up shower 3' wide by 4' long by 8.5' tall. This is why we hired Dan. Initially there was a little misunderstanding as to what I was responsible for and what Dan was supplying. After some discussion the situation was worked out and he proceeded with the job. Dan was willing to make things work for both of us. He showed up on the planned date, protected everything in the space he was working, was extremely maticulous about his work and even checked with me multiple times during the project to make sure we were on the same page. He did a beautiful job and when he was done he cleaned up so well you wouldn't even know he was here. One of the situations that impressed me was that he had an emergency job during our project, asked if we would let him address it and he would be gone a few days, he handled it and returned and finished our project when he said he would. No need to worry about his quality of work."

"Once the job began, turn-around time was great ... 1.5 all new baths (walls refinished, all new fixtures and appliances, tiles) in about 2 weeks. Tile work is wonderful. Clean lines. Good work all-around."

"My deck was becoming detached from my house - but the deck boards were in good shape. Scott painstakingly removed all the deck boarding - reattached it securely - doing it right - to the house. He then put the puzzle back together - My deck is now in better condition then it was when it was first put up.. He did it all with in the time and budget that we agreed upon."

"When we hired them in March, we were told our project would start in June. So everything could be made for the project by then. we recently found out our project will not start until September. This is very upsetting because we had a wall removed in anticipation of this project and now we have to wait to do our flooring to coving up that wall being gone. It is quite an inconvenience to have this pushed back so far because we have a strip of subfloor exposed and a couple of holes in the subfloor. We have four kids and this not being done for so much longer adds a lot of stress with how our cupboard situation changed when the wall was removed. One thing I did like about the project was that the majority of it was done it 2 weeks. They took out the old cabinets and installed the new ones in one day. The counters got installed the next week. Then a guy came to do the plumbing and install all of the appliances. So the kitchen was fully usable again in two weeks from starting the project. They still had to come back to finish some things that took a while because they had to wait on the parts. The customer service was pretty poor. The communication between the workers and project manager was bad. She never fully understood what still needed to be done. And then it was hard to get in touch with project manager to explain the things that needed to be done. I had to get our account flagged to show that there was an issue to finally get her to contact me again. Although it only took two weeks to have the kitchen usable again. The project took 5 months for them to finally finish all the final touches and things."

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
