"I had a roof leak after 2years, they fixed the leak, but damage inside my house they have ignored. They have promised me, after many phone calls, that they would send someone out. It’s not been done yet, and it’s been several months. I just tried to call them, couldn’t get through and they’re is no message available to leave. John Davis"

KO Roofing is not your typical roofing company. From acceptance of our estimate we will have your roof finished in less than two weeks. Typical roof company’s are months out and take weeks to finish a home. What makes the difference is our amazing crews, efficiency of scheduling and communication.
"The best roofing company I’ve ever used. They were fast, efficient, did everything they said they would and it looks beautiful.. I would highly recommend them."

"I hired Scott on August 17, 2018 to do some minor electrical, plumbing and some sheet rock repair in preparation for some kitchen cabinets being installed. I made it clear that the time to complete the project was very important because the cabinets had already been purchased and were waiting at Lowes for installation. He assured me that he could complete the job in just a few days and asked for a deposit of $300.00 to start. I wrote the check and asked him to start asap. (the check was cashed that same afternoon). He said he would like to get an early start, and we agreed that he would be at my house the next morning at 8:00am (the whole household had to get up early to accommodate this schedule) He never showed up until about 9:15 am. He said he had to take his daughter to work. He only worked until 10:15 am and then had to leave for the day. He said that he could not return until Tuesday morning because he had prior commitments. I texted him Monday night just to make sure he would be there on Tuesday. He indicated that he would be there at 8:30 am. He showed up at 9:15 am and worked for about 45 mins and left. He told me that he had to take one of his children to the Instacare. And then he had to go to Park City for something and asked if he could stop by on his way back around 9pm, just to go over what I wanted. (I had already giving him plans for the whole job). At 9pm he texted me and said something came up in Park City and he was just leaving. He still had to pick up his wife in Salt Lake City and then he would be at my house. That was at least 1 ½ hours of travel time. I told him it would be too late. He promised he would have the whole day Wednesday and would be at my house by 10am. He texted me on Wednesday at noon and said he was on his way. I called him at 1:30 wondering where he was AGAIN and left a message (he never answers his phone). He texted back again saying he was on his way. He got to my house about 2:00 and finally worked for a few hours (till 5:30). He texted me at 2:00 saying he was up at the University and was on his way to me. An hour later he texted again saying his car was over heating…… got to my house at almost 5pm. I sent him away. I guess he gets to keep the $300 dollars I gave him….. He had worked a total of maybe 5-6 hours. (Only really did about 1 ½ hours’ worth of work). My son had to redo most of what he did because it was not done right. By this time my son had taken the 1 ½ days off and had finished the whole project."

The three main types of slate roofs are standard, patterned, and random. Standard slate roof tiles have the same width, thickness, and length. They overlap in alternating rows and look uniform when fully installed. Patterned slate uses colored tiles and sometimes different shapes to create different designs. Random slate uses varying sizes and thicknesses to create a rustic look, similar to wooden shake.
The alternatives to slate roofs include fiber cement, concrete, and clay. They’re less expensive and don’t last as long, but they provide hard, fire-resistant roofing. You can also choose rubber- or plastic-made composites that mimic the look of slate. Before deciding, discuss the best options for your home and budget with your slate roofing pro.
Generally, a building permit is required for a new slate roof installation. This is considered a significant change in the structure of your house. If you’re replacing one type of roofing material with a slate roof, this may also call for a valid permit. Basic repairs may or may not need a permit. It is best to check with local authorities about the regulations that apply in your area.
Professional roofers' training varies by state, but they typically need to serve an apprenticeship of at least two years before applying for a roofing license. Always hire a professional with specific experience installing slate roofing. No other material goes on the same as slate tiles. It’s easy to crack the stone when installing it, leading to leaks and damage later on. Local roofing contractors should also have liability insurance and a business license. Call the issuers of these credentials to ensure they’re valid.
Replace a slate roof if more than 20% to 30% of its tiles need to be repaired or replaced. In most cases, the roof may be nearing the end of its life and will likely continue to need rapid tile replacement. It’s best to do it all at once. A standard roof inspection costs about $235, a worthwhile investment to make a more informed decision.
Slate roofs are a popular option because of their longevity and classic look. Expect a slate roof to last anywhere from 50 to 200 years, depending on factors like hardness, composition, and proper maintenance. While you may need to clean, repair, or replace some slate tiles over the years, slate roofing lasts a long time. By comparison, clay and concrete roofs last up to 50 years, while wood shingles last 25 to 70 years, depending on the variety.
