"Hired Epic Construction to stop the leak from my skylight, which was very bad...water was pouring into the interior. Andrew claimed that the water was coming in from my roof. He took closeup photos of holes from the roof but it was out of context so I didn't know exactly where he was taking photos. I went on the roof with him and he showed me holes around the perimeter of my roof, far away from the skylight and told me I needed to put in a new roof for $12K for removing the skylight or $17K for replacing the entire roof and sealing everything on the roof. The original agreement was to seal the skylight and repair the interior for $2100. I paid him by $800 check #1121 for down payment. He had 3 of his workers come out to seal and karnac 2 feet from the base of the skylight. They sealed around the air filter and another pipe. After this was done, it rained within the next few days and the leak got worse. More water was pouring in and I had to use more buckets to hold the water. At least 3 gallons of water came in and I was worried my skylight would cave in. I told him about the water and he told me I have to pay an extra $12K to remove the skylight and seal that area or $16K to put in a whole new roof. I had paid him the $2100 with check #1122 right after he did the work that didn't stop the leak. At that point, I scrambled to try to find the $12K by using my credit card, which wouldn't be enough, so I spent the weekend trying to think of ways to pay him. So, luckily I have a friend who gave me the contact info for someone who had experience with leaking roofs/skylights. I asked him to put up a tarp around the actual skylight and after it rained a few days later, there was no more leaking. We ruled out that it wasn't the surrounding areas of the skylight, it was the skylight itself that was leaking profusely. I feel Andrew was very unprofessional by making me believe that putting up a new roof for $16K would solve the issue because I have proof that it isn't the roof. The tarp fixed the problem temporarily because it hasn't leaked since. This person has provided me with an estimate for fixing the skylight externally and internally for $2500, including materials and labor. I need the full refund of $2900 so that I can afford to hire someone who I trust. Andrew took advantage of my situation by telling me all of the work that needed to be done was not necessary. I no longer trust him. We agreed that he would refund me $2000, but he is unable to pay the entire amount in full at once and requested that he pay me $100 per month for 20 months. He also said that he could bring back his crew to fix the skylight and the interior, but if he can afford to pay his crew, why can't he pay me instead? At this point, I will need a full refund of $2900 because what he did and claimed i needed to pay $16K for something he knew I didn't need is unprofessional and unethical. I own a business and would never try to cheat my customers."
