"Josh was the 14th mason we contacted for replacing our brick back in around our newly installed front door with side windows. The previous 13 were either too busy right now, wouldn't use our bricks, didn't want to do the tedious work of zig-zag sawing around bricks, complained that it would be too difficult, or were just plain no-shows to scheduled appts. Josh apparently did the impossible job that others couldn't or wouldn't do! He used the brick we had from the old door being cut out, did the necessary zig-zag sawing around the bricks on one side of the door, put in vertical "soldier" bricks above and below the door, matched the mortar color (which others said would not be possible), and did the extra job requested of putting in vertical "soldier"bricks above a separate window on the front of our house. He installed angle irons above the door and window to hold up the soldier bricks. And, he did all this work around a newly installed door, having protected the door well with a tarp and boards. (Normally his job would be much easier to do BEFORE the door was installed.) He tidied up every day before he left, and he did a great final clean-up. Communication was prompt. He was very courteous. And his price was better than fair. We paid him a good bit extra, because he was willing to do the "impossible" job that others didn't want, and his work was excellent. It WAS a tough job! The result is exactly what we had hoped for! He took the challenge and impressed us. Obviously, we highly recommend that you don't waste your time getting other estimates. You probably won't find better!"

"Mark and crew were wonderful, very professional and knowledgeable. Found severe damage to my chimney and helped to find the best solution for me. Repairs were done quickly, including tear down of chimney and repair of roof. Mark is a great guy and his crew are efficient and respectful. Great company. Will definitely use them again if needed. "All projects were completed with beautiful results. Their masonry division and pavers division both employ professional, seasoned crews who are assigned to the project with experienced foremen. With all of the projects there was meticulous care taken with the work, and they communicated with me about matters that came up along the way. The company was very easy to work with in negotiating the agreement, reviewing details, and getting responses to various questions along the way. There was a small group of stones, intended for capstones on a wall, that were not of the quality of the other stone, and they replaced those for me. Dan (masonry division & company) and Marty (paver division), division managers and senior managers of the company, offer careful review of their respective divisions' work and of the overall projects, and clearly care about their customers. The onsite foremen (John - masonry) and Rob (Pavers) were very careful with the details and the progress of the projects. They brought a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm to the work every day. In one instance a section of the drive wasn't to Rob's liking, and they pulled up that section and redid everything. They were careful to adjust the angles for drainage on the driveway, and were attentive to details that a lesser company might not pay attention to. They will purchase the quality of pavers/stone requested by the customer, and the Unilock pavers I chose to have installed both look beautiful, and appear to be durable also. They were attentive to protecting my home from construction dust, as I had requested, covering windows and doors in the vicinity, and cleaned up well after their work. I had a landscape design created for the overall plan for renovating the exterior of my home, and they comfortably worked with that design in establishing the dimensions of the various paver projects. I thought that the front area and driveway would look very nice as planned but it looks even better than I had hoped. Neighbors, and even the mail carrier have commented upon the awesome work; it is nice when one's neighbors can also enjoy and appreciate the results of a home project. Early in the planning stages I was deciding upon whether I was going to use HiCon's services for this work or another contractor. What tipped the balance was some advice from another contractor I had working at my home, who has had occasion to see HiCon's work over time because of the work that they do; their comment was that they thought I should contract with HiCon because their work is excellent and really holds up over time. Where this other contractor might see a more amateurishly constructed patio start to show signs of wear after a few years, the HiCon structures they have had occasion to see are often there many years later, still in good shape. I couldn't be more pleased with the work."

"I’m only giving a one star review because they were able to get us on the schedule quickly. Everett seemed very friendly and honest when he came out to give us a quote to widen our driveway and extend our extension patio so we decided to hire Hastings and Sons. Now with HUGE regret. This is a slimy business. Partial payment was due at the beginning of the job and the remaining was due at the completion of the job. We went ahead and paid the remaining payment without the job being FULLY completed (ignorant on my part) the only thing left to do was saw cut and clean up, we were told someone would back the following morning, here we are 4 days later and no one has showed up to complete the job. Everette and someone named Tim who wasn’t even on the job and told me two jobs were mixed up told me it would be taken care of (yesterday). If concrete is left too long without the control joints being cut it will crack, we are past 96 hours with no saw cuts! Not to mention I told the project manager I wanted our patio to be rounded and it was not, he did a walk through the morning of pouring and talked about the square footage but nothing was staked out so I didn’t even think to bring it up again since I already told him and showed him a picture of what I wanted, he said I should have mentioned that during the walk through. This part I was okay with getting over until it turned into a bigger problem. They left my front yard a mess, there is concrete smeared on our existing patio, concrete on the siding of our house, basement windows, the quality of their work is bad. Sloppy, the extension of the driveway isn’t even. If I could do it all over again I would have hire the contractor who’s price was significantly higher. I would not recommend Hastings and Sons to anyone and will never use them again for future projects. Do yourself a favor and don’t go for the cheapest quote, I know better and still did it. I should have been more thorough when researching the company, their reviews are loads of complaints and they are not on the BBB that’s usually a red flag. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for! Good thing is I was able to stop payment on the second check. They’ll get paid when they actually FINISH the job."
