"We hired Tomasetti Builders & Remodelers at the end of 2020 to renovate our kitchen. The project involved completely gutting the old kitchen and opening up the walls to make it an open space to our dining room and living room. In addition, we added a slider to the dining room area. The project was scheduled to begin November 2nd and began as planned. The owner Larry and his wife Joyce were very nice to work with when preparing the contract and initiating the project. Prior to meeting Larry and Joyce, my husband and I had a design of the new kitchen already, but Joyce took us to the stores they engaged with on a regular basis to select kitchen items such as the backsplash, floor tiles, and kitchen faucet. Joe was the project foreman and the one we consistently worked with on a daily basis. Joe came with his co-worker Mike to perform the work. They were extremely professional to work with and Joe was an excellent communicator. Joe provided daily summary updates on the days they worked on the project in addition to next steps. When I reached out to Joe, his response was prompt in providing answers to my questions. Joe ensured the contractors were kept informed of the situation and adjusted their scheduling as needed based on project progression. Both Mike and Joe worked hard every day they were present and Joe ensured the job progressed so that it was complete as close to the agreed upon timeline, as possible. Joe ensured the job met our expectations. Our satisfaction was his ultimate goal. Mike and Joe are the reason our kitchen renovation was done exactly how we wanted. We are ecstatic with the renovation results and would recommend hiring Tomasetti Builders with Joe and Mike working on the job."

"I had the pleasure of working with Dino and Pete of Platinum Construction to complete my living room, entry way and closet floor. Although it was a small project for them we felt as though it was handled with the same care and professionalism as the larger projects they do. As well as being completed in a timely manner. "Zach at Reichelt construction built a garage for us. We are incredibly pleased with the final product. He was communicative, asked for our input, and was professional throughout the process. He even helped us out afterward when we needed to get an electric vehicle charge installed quickly. It was not inexpensive by any means, but it was definitely a reasonable price given the quality of the work and materials. It took a few months beyond the six months stated in the contract, but we have come to expect this with projects such as this one, and we never pushed to have it done faster. We could not recommend Reichelt CC enough if you have a job you want done right."

"Adie was a pleasure to work with, and his crew really knew what they were doing. His quote was far below quotes by other contractors (normally a warning sign), but he clearly knew his stuff and my confidence in him was well-founded. I changed several details as the project went on, and Adie was happy to work with me and make any adjustments. There were delays caused by tile suppliers, but Adie worked to find other sources, and rearranged other commitments to make sure our project was completed as soon as possible. My only constructive criticism is that the quote was not itemized (which was ok for me at the time), but that caused an underestimated cost of the glass enclosure to go unnoticed in the budget until the end of the project. We’d made many changes over the course of the project, so were not unprepared for the higher cost of the glass, but I’d have known sooner if the budget had been itemized. Overall a great experience though and I would use East Bay again in a heartbeat!"

"The visit to my home in West Hartford was a nice affair. The technician explained everything. He even mentioned that I had to get a plumber to remove the sink away from the wall, so the work could be done to repair the window and wall area, but I did not hear him mention that I had to pull permits. The problem with this permit pulling issue is that I never initiated the pulling of permits, and this also is a red flag for me. The pulling of a permit should always be done by the contractor who is doing the job. It ensures that the permit pulled is to code. It ensures that the permit pulled follows local ordinance and CT. laws and statutes regarding construction, and that also includes consumer protection mandates in the State of Connecticut. Having me pull the permit to allow the CT. Basement Systems to do the work is a big, red flag, and it can result in my home owner's policy being cancelled if the permits are pulled either after the fact, or the permits pulled do not line up with the inspection process. I can also be fined by the town for pulling permits after the fact too. I've had my furnace replaced. The plumbing company who replaced the furnace followed state law and guidelines. Especially, since funding provided through a loan from a Credit Union chosen by the State of Connecticut ensured that permits were pulled correctly, legally. The same applies to my roof being replaced. The roofing company pulled the permit. Having a customer whom you are charging in excess of $20,000 to pull a permit is putting that customer in legal jeopardy, which is unacceptable. If I sell my house, and I had the work done in my basement, and the permits were pulled by me. The person who bought my house could sue me for an incorrectly pulled permit. How would I answer questions from the town about the technical aspects of the job, which should be handled by the contractor directly? Why introduce another layer of bureaucracy that slows down communication? Have the contractor pull the permit, so that the contractor and the municipality, town or city can communicate directly, and the pulling of the permit is done correctly and legally. How would I know, when the town should be doing an inspection during or while the job is being completed or after the job is completed? This should never be a requirement of the customer to pull the permit for a job to be done. The tech who visited my home mentioned that I had to hire a plumber to move a basement sink, but they did not mention about pulling of permits, but I went and re-read the quote again, and it is at the bottom of the quote page under "Customer Will" that states not only hiring of the plumber but also pulling permits and scheduling inspections. I did not have this job financed by CT. Basement Systems. I, instead, decided to get a home equity loan. If I did not get the home equity loan, then decided to go with CT. Basement Systems financing, then I would be screwed. The best thing I did was slow the process down, seek my own financing, and ask larger, bigger, deeper questions that prevented me from making a mistake by allowing this work to be done."

"I have worked with Mike Barry at High Street Designs on two projects. The first was a smaller, one room renovation, and the second was a larger renovation involving a kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. For both projects, I couldn’t be happier with the results and working with Mike. From the initial estimate and until the final walkthrough, Mike is on-time, transparent, communicative, and consultative. His entire team are professionals, which makes the process less stressful. If surprises come up during the renovation, Mike clearly outlines the options and pros/cons of each. This made me feel very much in control of the project. A few weeks after the completion of the second renovation, we had a minor issue that needed to be fixed. Mike’s subcontractor came out the very next day to fix it. "Chris Manganello is a gem. His level of skill and professionalism surpassed our utmost expectations. He was very easy to work with. He listened to what we wanted, respectfully offered suggestions, and ultimately did what made us happy. I'm so grateful we listened to some of his suggestions as he foresaw that we'd regret not knocking certain walls down. He is meticulous in every aspect of his trade. He cleaned up his "mess" EVERY day including sweeping the floors, putting all his tools in an organized pile, taking out the trash, shutting off lights, and locking the door. He treated this job as if he were doing it in his own home. If something was the slightest bit misaligned (we couldn't tell), he'd take it down and redo it because he knew he could do better. He never had that "it's good enough" attitude. He was excellent in communication as well, which is a characteristic most contractors do not have. We have developed such a rapport with him over the few months it took to finish the basement, that it felt like he was a member of our family. We were sad to see him leave, but we have been enjoying our new finished space immensely which includes a TV/media area, guest room, laundry room, full bathroom, work out area, office, lots of closets, and an unfinished storage area."
