    Major Renovations

"ECC is the best. When I met with Mike, I knew that he would be the one that I would hire to remodel our master bathroom and guest bathroom. On our first meeting he listened to my ideas and added some of his own. Together we formed the remodel plan. Along the way he made more suggestions that complemented what we had already decided. We took out the garden tub and existing shower in the master bath and made a walk in shower and dry off area. In the guest bath we took out a wall to open it up and made a new shower. We added granite countertops, new sinks and fixtures. He set up appointments with several granite, tile and fixture businesses and came along with me on several of them. Looking at my house decor he suggested the shower tile which looks awesome. He has quite an eye for design and what works. He gave us a cost breakdown and time line which were closely followed. His workmen were here promptly and left each day with everything cleaned up. Both Mike and the project supervisor keep us informed throughout and answered any questions that we had. We can't say more about Mike's professionalism and attention to detail and high recommend ECC. The end result was more that I expected!!"

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.

Comment: 1) I had a 12'x10' deck put on the roof of an addition I just had built and the contractor did not follow the plan. The 4 surrounding walls were supposed to be 36" high and he made it 44". I need the walls cut down to be only 36" from the surface of the roof as shown on the plan. This needs to be coordinated with a stucco contractor since the interior is finished and vulnerable to water damage during the work. 2) The same contractor installed a stucco system on the addition of unknown material that violates the building code. Pima County says It must be removed and a proper stucco system installed by a Western Products 1-Kote approved installer. There is a spiral staircase going up to the roof that needs to be removed for the stucco contractor to get access to the wall and then the staircase put back in place when he is done. 3) An instant hot water heater he installed in the bathroom was left with exposed pipes coming out the bottom that need a simple shield installed over them made out of metal so no one gets burned. 4) Confirm that the hot water heater is working properly once there is power to the building. 5) The HVAC condenser on the roof needs to be anchored-- it was left just sitting loose. 6) Check the HVAC system for proper performance once there is power to the building. 7) Arrange for the required air leakage test and seal anything needed in order to pass. 8) Remove an abandoned concrete AC condenser pad left by the contractor after he moved the previously existing condenser. 9) Clean up any debris left on site and thoroughly clean the interior and windows of construction dust. 10) Identify and remedy any other defects that would prevent the project from passing Intermediate and Final Inspections.

Comment: I need my fascia board replaced when we bought the house. They had gutters installed wrong (which we took down) but didn't realize the extent of the damage until we started scraping to paint!! The back fascia's were dissolving. Need estimate for fascia replacement and another for selective gutters installed.

Comment: Seems to be leakage around the chimney area - only leaking first story, not second story. A roofer told us the flashing and fascia around the chimney might be the culprit; probably need to re-do stucco. He suggested we find a general contractor due to the varying types of work that will be necessary. With the rain, we have an indoor water feature we don't want!

Comment: I live in a trailer home and the electric is not very reliable. The home is older, so it can be difficult to use many devices at once before the power turns off and we have to try to reset it. There are two rooms and one room does not have a door frame, I have managed to put up the door without it, but having a proper door frame and door would be better.
