"Through Angi, I requested a quote to change the carpets on my 3rd level to hardwood floors. Kelvin responded quickly and gave me an estimate to change all of the hardwood from carpet and added some work to the kitchen floor. The day of the project he said I would need to pay more money to change all the floors to hardwood on the 3rd level and charged me $500 for the work even though it was already included in the work scope. He left the floors behind the stove and refrigerator in the kitchen a complete mess and didn’t inform me that holes were left in the floor. The floor looked ten times before the work that was done leaving me wondering about the qualifications of his staff because what professional would do that and purposely hid bad work behind the appliances."

"This is the second time 858 Flooring completed work for me. I sadly had tile removal to address a water issue, and needed the tile replaced (they had previously installed the tile perfectly). We also decided to install a tile backsplash while they were there. Grant provided an estimate within a few days of contact and started work within two weeks. Grant and George are great about drop clothing the walkways to the work area and cleaned up each day. I love that they are open to tile suppliers, but are willing to share their suggestions. "Mr Zavala was hired to replace the existing heart pine flooring with a new subfloor and hardwood flooring. After a couple of weeks he still had not finished removing the old flooring. After applying some pressure to get the job, he proceeded to install the subfloor on the second floor in a shoddy manner, leaving us with an uneven subfloor. He also installed the subfloor with improper nails (smooth shank) when he should have used screws or at least ring shank. In addition, there were spots where he removed the old flooring (which functions as a subfloor in old houses) underneath a partition wall, causing the partition wall to sag. At that point we lost confidence in him and fired him. Unfortunately, we had paid him half the money at the start of the job and he only completed about 1/4 of it (badly). We subsequently got estimates from other contractors who told us he had installed the subfloor incorrectly, cutting the panels too small and not using the built in grooves to align the panels. Furthermore, they informed us that it is standard professional practice to inform the owner of the value of their existing flooring, which was long-leaf heart pine. We should have been compensated for this removed material which has considerable salvage value. So it it clear that he was taking his sweet time to remove the old heart pine so that he could maximize its value to him. Furthermore, a $1000 bicycle went missing while he was working in the house, which I suspect was taken by one of his workers. Needless to say, hire this guy at your own risk."

Travertine is a natural limestone cut into slabs and processed into tiles. In contrast, porcelain tiles are a form of ceramic made to mimic the look of natural stone. Travertine is porous and less durable than porcelain, which is extremely hard and resistant to scratching and water. Natural stones like travertine are also more expensive than ceramic tiles. Porcelain tiles cost between $3 and $6 per square foot.

Hairline cracks in travertine tiles often originate from cracks or voids in the concrete subfloor. You can avoid this kind of damage by applying an elastic fracture-guard coating on top of the concrete slab before installing the tile. The coating provides the added benefit of locking away any moisture that might otherwise creep up from the concrete slab.
Travertine tiles last between 75 and 100 years when installed correctly and maintained with the proper care. By regularly cleaning with the right products and handling furniture moves carefully, you ensure the tiles retain their natural beauty and strength over time. Consistent maintenance, including proper sealing, keeps your travertine floors durable for decades.
To reseal travertine tile, start with a thorough steam cleaning of the tile and grout to remove dirt and debris. After cleaning, apply a high-quality sealant to protect the tile surface. Sealants cost between $30 and $40 per quart, and professional resealing services charge $1 to $2 per square foot, ensuring your tile remains protected and visually appealing.
