"I reached out to Anthony’s Chimney Sweeps for help with 1) application of a chimney crown coat seal, and 2) installation of a lock top chimney damper. My home’s crown coat had worn away and the damper had literally fallen off the chimney (probably due to a combination of raccoons and wind). Both Anthony and I had to be flexible with the timing of this job as he had vacation planned and the weather was a problem (rain and snow). However, it was super easy to work with Anthony and the communication was great! He kept me up to date on his schedule, and he worked with me when I needed to fit the work in to a very tight timeframe on my end. Anthony both called and texted me, as appropriate. He was pleasant explained everything thoroughly and to my satisfaction, and he was patient. He regularly asked if I had any questions. The bottom line is that he did what he said he would do in a timely fashion. There were zero problems. He even made a point to drop off the equipment I paid for in advance of his vacation so that I would have it. I paid $600 up front and $600 when the work was finished. Too, while he was on the roof, Anthony noticed that my roofer had failed to install a furnace cap and storm collar last year and brought it to my attention. He took pictures of everything so that I could see his work and what was going on on the roof. Now that this work has been done my house is much less drafty and I’ll recoup the cost of this repair over the next few months. Highly recommend and I will call Anthony again in the future."

"Fresh Start Cleaning Solutions LLC, Jeremiah Barry 734-579-1168 I contacted Jeremiah for help with Power Washing my late mother’s estate. Her garage, large driveway, sidewalk and porch. He did a tremendous job. Soon after I contacted him to help me with the Power Washing, I was at my mother’s home trying to get the last few details completed so we could get the home on the market. I became very sick while taking care of some of these Misc jobs and truly needed help to get things done within the timeline. I called to see if he did odd outside jobs thinking since he did Power Washing, perhaps he did other outside odds and ends. In desperation, I thought I need to call and ask if he wasn’t interested he could let me know. He came by the following day and did what I asked as well as all the other jobs I could use his help with. He did it all and a wonderful job to boot. NOWAY would I have met the deadline without him. Chimney cap installations and replacements FAQs
Yes, a chimney cap is essential for keeping birds, squirrels, rain, and debris out of the flue. By stopping stray embers and blocking downdrafts, a chimney cap helps your fireplace run safely and efficiently. The cap also protects the chimney’s inner walls from moisture damage, saving you from costly repairs down the road.
Most chimney caps last anywhere from three to 25 years. Galvanized steel sits at the low end, while stainless steel, aluminum, and especially copper can exceed the 25-year mark. Annual inspections, quick repairs, and routine chimney cleanings all help the cap reach its full lifespan and keep the flue protected.
A good rule of thumb is to set the cap at least eight inches above the top of the flue. That clearance keeps the draft strong, lets smoke exit freely, and prevents back-puffing into your living room. Extra height also adds a little more protection from wind-driven rain and snow without hurting airflow.
The crown is the solid concrete or mortar slab that sits on top of the chimney stack and sheds water away from the masonry. The cap, mounted above the flue, adds the final layer of defense by blocking rain, animals, and embers while still letting smoke out. Working together, the crown guards the structure and the cap safeguards the flue.
