"Greg the inspector came out, nice guy very knowledgeable, I spent 14800 in waterproofing and mold removal, new sump pump and a air purifier. Greg and I went over everything the crew was going to do. Well where the water issue I was most concerned about , they side step and only put the drain tile down the middle and not at both sides. Stay Dry ended up sending 1 person to put tile in on both sides and fixed that issue, now I am having water issue where I was not having issues before and come to find out where my water line comes in they just put gravel under and did not put the concrete back in that area. So now I have a new leak and I can't seem to get this company to come back out for a 3rd time to fix this issue. Also I have water coming up from the newly concrete floor, I was told that the concrete has to cure for awhile which I understand that, but I don't think it should be seeping up along the cracks where the new and old concrete meets. Waiting on this company to correct."

"I can not speak higher of All American Waterproofing out of Wadsworth, Ohio! I live by the Wolf Creek Tavern in Norton’s loyal Oak & for the first time since moving in late 2001/early 2002 my basement suffered a massive flood August 8, 2023. Owner Mike Johns gave me his plan & the estimate. Other companies sent young people who never actually did the work and were basically just reinstalling what I already had downstairs. Mike had a much better plan, And I feel confident that I could finish my basement and it is never going to get wet again! I now have a sump pump in each corner of the basement, the sump pumps have secondary backup pumps, they have battery back ups in case the power goes out, all the pumps and all my downspouts all the way around the house are now dumped far from the house down by the road. Very punctual, two problems, first was a clogged drain than was cleared quickly, the second was a defective outside spigot that split because I forgot to remove house line for the winter. The basement was finished making it difficult to get to the line so replacement could be completed. Both jobs were completed, area was broom clean, the final bill was slightly higher then quote because of extra time need to get to line with out damaging. "We have used Gorjanc to service our steam heating system in the past. This spring we noticed a leak coming from our furnace and some corrosion on some of the outlet pipes. Because we are preparing to sell our home, we wanted to get an assessment of the problem. Gorjanc was very quick to get a technician out. The tech examined the boiler and quoted us $1400 to “attempt” to repair it, but gave us the ominous warning that “whether it can be repaired is 50/50....and you’d lose the $1400 if it doesn’t.” He happily put us in touch with the sales department to schedule an appointment for a replacment boiler. I reached out to a small owner-operated firm run by a former-Gorjanc technician for a second opinion and I am glad I did. After inspecting the leak, he said he could repair and certify the boiler. He gave me an estimate of $300-700 depending on how long it would take. In the end, he spent just 2 hrs and charged me $250 to repair the leak, clean out the sight glass, test and certify the boiler. There are only three conclusions that can be drawn: 1) Gorjanc has so much overhead, that they need to charge 5-6x the cost of repairs 2) Their technician wasnt competent enough to accurately diagnose a problem and assess its repairability OR 3) They use service calls as a way of driving sales of new boilers. Probably, it’s all three. PS This isn’t the first time we’ve had an insanely high estimate from GCS. They once quoted us $700 to replace a cracked radiator valve. We ended up having the work done for $200."

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.
Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.
Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.
You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.
Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
