Updated February 28, 2017

If you’re dealing with a stubborn stain, follow these four simple steps to keep it from setting:

Step 1. Apply water to your stain and let it soak in.

Step 2. Once the stain is saturated, blot the wet spot with a cloth.

Step 3. If your stain is still there, scrub your carpet with dish soap. Use a wet hand towel to remove the soap from your carpet.

Step 4. For unusually tough blemishes, mix together baking soda and water and spread the mixture over around your stain. Let the mixture dry and vacuum it up.
